Truckers being road police
Discussion
Aye - there's nowt like 'merge-in-turn', is there? And that's nowt like merge-in-turn...
And since when were HGVs allowed in lane 3?
Edit to add: The stupid eejits sometimes do this at the Catthorpe interchange (M6/A14) and force the stationary traffic to queue on the live lanes of the motorway rather than the slip-road down to the lights. Utter fekkwits.

I agree. People who don't get what 'merge in turn' means deserve a slap.Bravo truckers!

Actually thankful for a change!
M6 northbound at Preston. Matrix signs saying move over were being ignored and we'd been stationary as people cut in ahead.. Flowing ok now..
I'm confused.M6 northbound at Preston. Matrix signs saying move over were being ignored and we'd been stationary as people cut in ahead.. Flowing ok now..
The truckers are preventing people from using all the available road?
The lanes were open, but matrix signs were advising to merge ahead (presumable there were red Xs on the signs ahead where they didn't want traffic...)
How much longer was this queue because of a couple of trucking tankers?
Don't have a problem with this myself, unless it ends up blocking a "through" lane at a junction.
Some people are a little over-cautious, and they end up stuck in lane one, while the last-minute-mergers effectively overtake them.
Same happens to trucks that sit in lane one (or lane two if there are three lanes). They must get fed up with being overtaken, so they pull out. This lets the people sitting in the inside lanes make progress smoothly past the blockage.
If everybody on the road had equal driving skills/confidence, we could all merge in turn a few metres before the blockage, and this kind of "policing" wouldn't be necessary.

All the truckers are doing is pushing the queue further back than it need be and leaving plenty of much needed road capacity in front of them.

But if the road is narrowed to one lane at any point between 2 junctions, then the capacity between those junctions is the capacity of one lane. So what difference does it make where the queue starts?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
