Have just got the old girl back on the road after a years lay up (working away!). She was a bit reluctant to start but a gallon of fuel sorted that, then flew through MOT, insured and taxed this morning. So, then we went for a spin. Took her for a blast along the local roads for about 5 miles and bliss the memories came flooding back. Ran like a dream then we stopped for a coffee for about 30 mins. Got back in car and set off but after about 400 yards she stalled or maybe i stalled her anyway she would not start, would fire then immediatley die. Took 5 goes and then she burst into life. Thought maybe some debri or air in fuel. Decided that a short run was in order to fully check out, went for about 3 miles then she started running on only a few cylinders. Persevered and after about another mile she was firing on all 8 again. Does anyone have any ideas as i have never had to do any maintenance on her yet. BTW she is a 1995 4.0 Chim.

I had the same issue on and off for 12-18 months. After replacing all the HT system, the alarm, and ',rationalising the wiring under the dash, it turned out to be a dodgy connection between the Ecu and the wiring loom. Solution, unplug Ecu, check contacts look ok, spray wd40...

Good luck.. not fun when it cutout dead on the m1 in the outside lane, or when I lost a bank of cylinders during an overtake...

Yup - I had similar problems for a couple of years - finally identified it as being a fractured lead at the point where the loom enters the ECU connector housing. Had the whole ECU harness and engine loom replaced when I did my ECU swap and she's been good as gold ever since.

I got a horrendous misfire/cut out/hiccup last summer, on long left hand bends on a track day. Tank was one third full.
Naffed off to the nearest V Power pump and filled up. Misfire cured

Filled her up with V Power and looks to be the cure. Happy days.

Juts read the start of the thread - fuel has a shelf life, and it ain't 12 months.....as you found out. Fresh fuel sounds like it has sorted it.

A good shot of injector cleaner may be an idea after a long layup. ECU contact plugs and socket best cleaned with an electrical contact cleaner.
