Water damage. Can it be repaired?

I went kayaking a few days ago and put my camera in the supplied dry bag in the morning only to find the inside of the bag was wetter than an otter's pocket when I went to remove it at the end of the day so after allowing it to dry out for a few days (inside a bag of rice, sunlight, warm breeze etc.) it refuses to do anything and is now just a very expensive paperweight.

It's a Canon Powershot G15 which I absolutely love and is only about 10 weeks old so had it been an old camera I'd be a bit miffed but see it as a chance to get something a bit more modern but I've not even had a chance to read the manual on this one yet so I'll be gutted if it has to get binned so soon.

What are my chances of getting it fixed?

I would have thought that water damage would have been excluded from any camera guarantee. What about the guarantee on the dry sac? Or maybe a chargeback on your credit card? Or maybe home insurance?

You could contact somewhere like Fixation, to see if they can do anything for you. Might say on their website if they deal with compacts - I know they fix D-SLRs as I've sent them a few over the years!

I'm in Laos though, and won't be back in the UK for quite a while. I've found a Canon authorised dealer in Vientiane so I'll give them a try.

The dry bag was the kayak company's, I paid cash for the camera and have no home insurance while I travel. Travel insurance also won't cover it with the policy I have.
