That engine scares me to much im afraid, cost i mean.
If cost worries you then a Cerb might be the wrong car. They cost so much more to keep on the road over RV8 cars. I know, 3 years on with mine it is eye watering when i look over parts receipts on what i have spent on the car, it would be terrifying if i had to pay some to work on it. Go in eyes wide open is all i would say to you its not a chim/griff thats for sure.
But good luck if your set on getting one.

anyone else gone this route to a cerbera?
or should i go to an escort cosort?
I sold my Griff when SWMBO said I had to get a 'family' car with a roof... excellent I thought and bought a low mileage (22k) 4.5 with provenance - went pop after 6m as child no. 5 was announced... ouch! or should i go to an escort cosort?
I think I was extremely unlucky as AJP's are pretty robust if serviced and treated correctly - just factor in 2k pa av. running costs (c.2 x RV8) -still the most mental car I have owned (present company excepted)
Back to Griffs now....

Just sold my Griff 500 to a nice fella from Ireland yesterday.
Needed rear seats so it reluctantly had to go so the family can enjoy my passion/madness!

If it was my money forget the escort cosworth (I really don't see it with them) and get a 4.2 or 4.5 Cerbera. People do say the S6 is good but in my mind a Cerbera should be a V8 and the AJP is superb. Once you hear a decatted 4.5 cerb on full chat you will forget escorts even exist.
My advice is to buy well (full history, yearly 12k service as good independent) and you won't go far wrong. The ajp is a tough engine and apart from eating starter motors and batteries they are pretty reliable.

I just don't get this "a Cerbera should be a V8 in my mind" stuff that is regularly trotted out on here. Needless to say I have an S6, what's the big deal with the V8? The S6 is a race bred engine and is in the tradition of British straight six racing cars. Performance of both is pretty shattering and whilst the V8 may have a bit more power its pretty academic. If it was my money forget the escort cosworth (I really don't see it with them) and get a 4.2 or 4.5 Cerbera. Of course if you buy an S6 you need one with the obligatory rebuild but costs after that I dare say are not much different and I personally love the rasp and free revving nature of the S6. It's not as if the AJP is a typical V8 anyway, (if such a thing exists) - it's certainly a very different beast to the RV8.

You will never explore the limits of any of them on the road any way. The track yes but in my eyes if it is out right power bin the TVR engine and LS it if that is your thing.
Id love a v8 Cerbera dont get me wrong but i can fix cosworths and there a much better investment in my opinion than a Cerbera unless you replace the chassis and chuck loads of money at it.
And after making money on my Griff im looking for that investability.
Wish i had the money for both but ive got my sensible head on at the moment, maybe i will change my mind when i get fed up with the Cozzy i eventually find....

I find the AJP V8 is the far nicer engine. I also love the Speed 6 which has its place in history and is an important part of the T-cars where it belongs.
But having the engine choice, as for the Cerbera, it would have to be the AJP8.
Best of both worlds (Speed 6 and Rover V8) in one very fine piece.
Because it revs and still has got loads of torque and does not feel as it was developed on budged.
Or maybe it is only me and I am already geting to old for the nervous Speed 6 now.

No offence intended, for me it isn't down to speed/performance/reliability it is down to characteristics and noise. The AJP does it for me the S6 doesn't. I am sure a sorted S6 (especialy a 4.3 Power one) would almost certainly be more powerful than the AJP but as I said it isn't about the performance. A TVR is about the drama and occasion and the AJP makes it more dramatic. Again, this is all my opinion nothing more.Of course if you buy an S6 you need one with the obligatory rebuild but costs after that I dare say are not much different and I personally love the rasp and free revving nature of the S6.
