I noticed all police cars are turning silver - why is that?

I assume its a long term plan to aid resale values after service, thus reducing force costs.

that right?

Supposedly to help resale values but it does seem to be an odd shade of silver, so everyone will still know that you are driving an ex police car, 1000000 miles on the clock, holes in the dash, knackered seats etc.

I did think primarily residuals...

BUT, a more sinister thought has crossed my mind..

White in Rear View = Slow down... its instinctive, like cameras (well for me anyway!)

Silver.. well, its just common now!

My Developer drives an Ex-Plod White T5, you should see the way everyone dives out of the way, even though he isnt doing anything unusual... its just instinctive..

Silver = more collars, especially with the new cars I have seen around, Jamjar'd up all over, EXCEPT on the bonnet, which JUST has POLICE ...

In the rear view, at a medium distance, a full jamjar looks like a normal rep mobile (the blues arent THAT visible when off in distance, set against sky!)

But maybe i am just drinking too much Pepsi!

its the most popular car colour at the mo so the cars are cheaper to buy, saving us tax payers money.

Have a look at this....silver in colour and ultra thin roof bars.....not much chance of seeing this until it's too late...

Is there any reason why they're multicoloured on the side and plain from the front? surely if there's a good reason for having the sides done like that it's a good reason to have the front the same? I can imagine that if it's reflective then you probably wouldn't want the rear done, but the front wouldn't matter .. is it purely to creep up on crimina er.. motorists without detection?

The sides and rear is done for various reasons...Firstly safety, as the scene of incidents and when on emergency runs (ie: getting out of junctions etc)...

The reason why the bonnet isn't done is for two reasons...firstly to protect accident scenes police vehicle park rear on, or side on...and more importantly and perhaps obviously if the front of the car was reflective it could cause dazzle for the driver...

I'd have thought that row of blue lights on the front would have been a give away.
