It's completely right. Why not? They're no rules on who looks good in what.

Hmm, my mum's sort of in this category. Has an A4 cab and just turned 60, although she has had it 5 years. She also doesn't like to fart around in anything with less than 6 cylinders, so a bit of respect due there.

There's also an old boy up the road from me with a convertible CLK55, he's always had quick cars, alas I've only ever seen him drive the Merc like Miss. Daisy...

Why not? My dad has an MG A and he's 69.

He may have owned it for the past forty years though...

Maybe the Astra is all the old folks could afford after raising their (ungrateful) sprogs ?

Or maybe that's all they want/need. Plus, who really cares?

Any better or worse than an oldie in, for example, a hot hatch? Does my 70 yo old man caning a grubby Asbo elicit the same negativity (even if badly, under the surface)?

Appropriate oldie & car = win.

Oh lord, Astra convertibles! Now there's a car I'd stick in room 101. Or rather, I'd put their drivers in room 101; they always seem to be under the misguided illusion that they're driving something a bit special..

Sorry Astra people (can't be many on here though surely??).

there is an old boy uses the garage next to me, must be in his 80's, walking stick to the garage hobbling along and pulls out in a bright red Audi S line convertible, 19" alloys, full black leather, all the toys, looked like a 2012 model to me (private plate).

I asked him why he is driving it, he said (gods honest truth) 'Now the wife has gone I bought the car I wanted'

The old man drives his sl wih the top down all the time. He's in his seventies and certainly doesn't hang around.

What's the issue?

I'm pretty sure that if I felt I would probably die in the next twenty years then I would stop giving a st what others thought and spend my money on whatever brought me happiness before I croaked.

Old folk seem to enjoy roof-down motoring more than their younger contemporaries. Big smiles, hair blowing in the wind - the way it should be.

Another anti convertible thread? Are some of the PH usership starting to become as jealous and envious as the low brow mouth breathers on the street?
