Having obtained a pair of Cortina upright assemblies I need to fit new hub bearings. I thought they were all the same but suppliers seem to quote different part numbers not only for the Mk3, Mk4 and Mk5 but also for different models of the same mark . . . is this correct? If so how do I identify exactly which uprights and hubs I have so that I order the correct parts?

I thought the same as you.

I've been doing a bit of searching it seems there a few exceptions as per this thread
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/viewthread.p...

How you tell which you have though I'm not sure. I think the numbers cast in the upright are batch numbers?!

If you have the old bearings they should have a part number printed/etched on the races, so should the grease seal.

Talk to your friendly motor factor with a view to ordering from them and see if they will take them back if they don't fit.

Thanks for that - doesn't explain the difference in part numbers that I've found . . . guess a trip to the Factors with the old ones is the best bet as you suggested.
