Looking at there current lineup, lacking a family cruiser / saloon. With what Alfa learnt from the screw up of a release, which they fixed mid 2007 (Too late IMO, too fat and underpowered). Would you now buy one?

My experience with the 159 has been pure gold on an 08 plate (2.4 JTDM w / DPF removed), comfortable, quick, decent economy, very reliable and decent looking. On the flip side I didn't have a great experiences with the 156 (Having owned two of them)compared to (Bmw, Toyota, Audi, Nissan and Lexus). I really can't fault the 159 and surprised it really was a big flop..

I do wonder how many people would argue against it being nominated as one of the best looking everyday cars ever made.

I'd love a black or red TI if I'm completely honest.

Other than maybe the AM Rapide, I can't think of a better looking 4-door saloon car

Not many it seems, the Mito and giulietta seems to get a lot less love TBH..

Seriously, why the hell did it flop so hard? Even if it was a little fat when it came out, I'd still prefer this to a piece of ass vectra (Which I owned, regrettably).

They made an AWD model, might be a little bit of mechanical misunderstanding here but I'm puzzled why they couldn't have?

The only thing worries me is that they doesn't depreciate as much as I hope they would

Well I gather depreciation is down to supply and demand, if enough people wanted them.. Then it would keep the resale value bumped.

I think it flopped as it was a little too similar to the 156.

Personally, that's a good thing - they are both great lookers and as an ownership proposition the 159 is better.

I have heard that the 159 had conventional rear door handles because one of the complaints that prospective customers had was "you can't see the door handles", at which point they went off and bought an Audi or a Beemer instead. I notice that the Giulietta has reverted to the hidden handles.
It was also relatively underpowered for its weight, and just not as good looking as the 156.
I've had two, the original design, and the facelifted version, which isn't as pretty, although I like the deeper grille. I really need to get rid of it because it's starting to develop niggling faults, but there's nothing as inspiring on the market.

IMO the best looking saloon ever made. I would have one in a heartbeat if I needed one.

I seriously considered a 2.4 TI.. In the end it just didn't offer as much as the equivalent BMW. It's looks alone wasn't enough to make me buy one over say a 330d.

If I could put my current 335d running gear into that body I would!

Because it's not German. Those are the saloons that everyone wants to be in these days (i.e. that's the style and status bunch), those that aren't bothered for German worried that it would be horrendously unreliable (because that's Alfa's rep).

Shame, as it was utterly gorgeous. See a red 3.2Q4 Ti wagon on the way to work every day, it looks bloody lovely.

I'd have one.

I had one as a company car and wouldn't want another car now. I bought one myself after I quit, a 2.4 JTDm, pretty nose heavy but such an easy car to drive, a truly special place to be in and a true thing of beauty.

After 4 years of 159's, I still look back after I park it.

I'd have one in a heartbeat.

Agree, I am temped by a Golf R, but I'm not sure it's got as well sorted AWD system as my 159

Do the 159 3.2 sound as nice as the busso?

Enjoyed the 159 Sportwagon I had a few years back (company car). Totally reliable, handled well, great looking. Would have bought one after moving jobs but they haven't depreciated as much as I would like (or 156s did) - which I suppose is a good sign as an ownership prospect. Maybe when I've tired of my Legacy I'll go back again.

I think if Alfa had offered a 5 year warranty they would have had more take-up.
