With the worlds supply of E36 M3's having gone missing overnight I am considering buying a cooked Rx8 and getting the engine rebuilt instead, to be used as an everyday and track car.

Plan would be to buy something, get it shipped off to an engine specialist, get a rebuild and swap the dampers at the same time.

There however seems to be a wide range in costs for 2 year warrantied engine rebuilds.

As anybody heard of the following two? Should I be looking for certain things or is it just the cheapest with a solid warranty?

Go to http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk and you'll find loads of info on these 2. Yes they are a bit of difference in price but by the time you replace some bearings as well as the apex seal then the difference is about 1K.

I'm looking for a rebuild in 18 months time for MY RX8 regardless if it has hot start / compression issue as I want to export the car to Oz. Reading everything about the 2 I'd personally be going for apexrotary as they are a cheaper option.

Try Haywood Rotary, they have a very good reputation and long warranties which including track use. They can do standard and ported rebuilds.

They have this for sale at £4500 with a ported engine http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.p...

Another is WGT Autodevelopments who are currently building a ported engine for my rotary mx5. The porting was done by BDC motorsports in the US which was a bit of a faff to get organised but they have some good dyno results (230-240rwhp so around 270bhp fly).

If you want more "cooked", then you need forced induction.
