Evening,

I was in Thailand a few weeks ago and decided against my better judgement to get a full on Thai massage. The girl dealing it out looks like she had been a few rounds with a bear and basically bent my body in ways its not supposed to be bent.

One of these included a twisting of my torso from side to side, which caused a sharp pain which then dissipated. Roll on the next day, and I get a sharp abdominal pain when in a seated position that feels to be just under and inside my ribcage on my right side.

It's been two weeks now, and it still hurts, not nearly as bad and now more of an annoyance than anything but it seems to long to be a strained muscle? Any thoughts? (And my doctor typically sends me away unless I am missing a limb or vomiting blood)

Most likely an intercostal muscle strain, a small muscle between the ribs.

Take some anti inflammatories, voltarol or similar. If it isn't better in a week then down the quacks.

I've had the 'twist your neck/back until it cracks' treatment before. Is there any reason they do that, or just to impress the punters?

I hate massages by the way, as they always leave me feeling violated, rather than "oh, they make me feel so relaxed, I can feel all the stress draining away"......

You want a Swedish massage then, very gentle. Ideally performed by a fine Swedish lady.

Yes, muchos cracking of every part of my body I really value. (i.e. My neck and spine)

Never again.

The first Thai massage I had was for two hours, stupidly.

Every part of my body hurt for at least 4 days; some parts a week.

It really is an horrific experience biggrin
