I recently drove a 996 C4s and it seemed to have a much lighter clutch than mine and went into gear in a more silky way.

Are the two cars gear boxes different? Should my clutch feel a bit heavy?

Also, notice and ocasional puff of smoke on start up. Is that normal, dealer says yes.

Last, the car does use a bit of oil, again is that normal?

One final one, the oil measure on the dash seems to read different at times, one time low the next fine.

Is the readout accurate and should it move?

You'll find that the reading on the dash reads a notch or 2 more after the car has been standing overnight. This is due to the oil having much longer time to drain into the tank.

911's do use a bit of Oil so no concern there.

I have been told to trust the dash Oil reading more so than the stick ??, ditto previous comments, car needs time to settle for more accurate reading.
Don't do what a did a couple of years ago, when the dash reading was quite low, i proceeded to put Oil in which didn't seem to register, so i put in a LOT more, when it all settled down i had well over filled it !!
