Not sure if this is true? Or just a mate of mine just winding me up (again!)?

He just called me to say he is driving in a new rental Mercedes Blue Efficency model, has done 300 miles in it today and when it gets to a section of motorway with reduced speed limits it sets itself to the speed displayed, and if you put your foot down it wont accelerate above that limit until back on the normal limit.

Never heard of such a thing and can hardly believe it!
But having now looked it up there is an option available called "Speedtronic variable speed limiter".

Anyone seen this in action?

MB seem to be saying you set an upper limit like cruise control, and it'll just flash some lights if you go above it.

I'd be surprised, but having driven a MB with the speed limit option I was surprised at it's accuracy.

Variable Speed Limit in MB terms though is normally just the opposite of Cruise - ie you set the speed and it won't go over until you cancel.

It's a bit cleverer than that. It won't go over, unless you use kickdown.
