Geneva Motor Show 2013: Jaguar

There's a Euro debut for the XFR-S, while the F-Type is displayed hot from its high-speed run at Jabbeke

No big announcements from Jaguar at this year’s Geneva show, but we do have the XFR-S. And while it’s already made an appearance at the Detroit Show back in January, this is Europe’s first look at the car.

In the flesh – and even with that spoiler – it looks supremely menacing. It’ll get the same supercharged 5.0-litre V8 as the XFR, but uprated to produce 550hp. Torque, meanwhile, is a thumping 501lb ft, and as a result, the R-S will be able to hit 62mph in 4.4 seconds, before going on to an electronically-limited 186mph top speed.

Also on Jaguar’s stand this year is the new F-Type. As we reported earlier in the week, one of these stopped off at Jabbeke on the way down to attempt a high-speed run with Andy Wallace at the wheel, replicating Jaguar’s 1953 attempt, and pulling a 0-62 time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed just shy of 180mph in the process. Meanwhile, another F-Type was driven down with a “specialist in frugal driving” – yep, that’s a technical term – behind the wheel, who managed to achieve a faintly astonishing 35.6mpg on the 519-mile journey. Lots of fun stats there, then, and even now its undisguised looks are starting to become familiar, the rather lovely blue example slowly revolving on Jaguar’s stand proved that it’s losing none of its charm.

I'm quite a fan of the racing blue paint job.

The front view of the XFRS is lovely..

Such a shame the F-Type didn't make the impact of the E-type but in the day. And the price! Eeeeeeeeeeek! I specced it and it would be £84K. WTF!

It is a thought but what else faster is cheaper. The 991 is up in this territory. Go easy on the V6 trimmings and it is much cheaper than that ( off to check I am not making that up!)

I'm liking the look of the F-type more each time i see it, but look forward to seeing it on the road, and as many have already said, the coupe once here will perhaps be the version that makes more sense - both in terms of our expectations of a Jaguar and when compared to the obvious competition from other brands.

It's about time Jag gave you guys one to play with. I'm getting rather tired of 'passenger rides' and 'stats'. Let's have some proper reviews and a comparison!

BTW I thought the high speed run and the economy run were in the same car? No?

When do the F-Types hit the streets? I had expected to see a few rolling around Geneva this week but so far, I have only seen about a dozen or XF Sportbrakes which I'm afraid to say look etremely bland.

April/May I believe. There were quite a few bashing up & down the dual carriage way on the A303 the week before last.

A standard F-Type with minimal extras is the way to go for me-less weight, less money, the same religious path works with the new Boxster too -Less is more, and also applies to depreciation in the long term, although I'm going to keep mine for ever, well I am an old fart and it will be my last hurrah, but it should look ace in the Nursing Home car park alongside the micras and battery chariots and will bear my personal plate S4JEF, so if you see me hoot for hello. This all supposes my Ebay de-cluttering sale goes well. Oh and it will be the Jag not the Boxster-got to keep jobs in the UK and thanks Mr Tata-you are a swell guy.

If you want to see a F-Type in the flesh, get yourself up near Gaydon or Coventry... There are a few early production cars knocking about with the camo off. They look as good as they sound, particularly the ones in solid red.

I've seen half a dozen in and around that area of late and they do look great in the flesh. The coupe version would be one which could potentially tempt me away from a 991 (although I can comfortably afford neither)...
