Dash instrument removal
Discussion
Evening all. Search facility is down unfortunately so resorting to a new post. I've been planning to replace the bulbs in the four dash instruments (oil, fuel, temp, volts) on my S3 and finally getting round to it. I've taken the top dash section out and already have the centre console out. I was rather foolishly expecting that this is all I'd need to do to gain access to the back of the four instruments. However, it doesn't seem that straightforward - I still can't find a way in to replace the bulbs as they just seem to be encased in the dash! Can anyone advise me on how this is achieved - ideally without any more gaining any further injuries to my hands! Cheers
Seem like we're all doing this now. Joe's (V8s4me) thread will give you all you need. There are 4 crosshead blots with captive nuts in the dash. 2 are accessed from the glovebox relatively easily, the other 2 are roughly above the rev counter and speedo dials but you will need to drop the steering column to get your hand in. After that its a delicate balance of force and wiggling but it does help if you push the captive nut up from below with a long shaft screwdriver as you pull the dash backwards you to allow the nut to clear the hole through the fiberglass. Getting the little sods back in afterwards is the hard part!! Good luck.
