Ordered a new Cayenne Diesel S in November, was told expect a March/April delivery. At that time no OPCs had allocations, and production hadn't actually started. Many cars had been ordered however. I understood that all allocations were to be done in December, with production beginning in January 2013.

Now chasing the OPC for details of build slot or expected delivery, to be told that it wasn't on his list of deliveries, or even the factory schedule, and that he'd have to call Porsche to get a build month, and work from there.

Just had an email;

Had a chat with Porsche and your car is down as a June production vehicle although the factory haven’t fully allocated it yet. They are expecting it to show on the system sometime late next week or the beginning of the week after.

Haven't fully allocated ?!? WTF does that mean ? I was led to believe that order were being fulfilled on the basis of date placed. Surely I'd see a confirmed build slot by now ?

This is first new Pork, so not sure of details of how this should work. If any of you that have order new cars could shed any clarification, it would be much appreciated. I'm not moaning about the date, I just have the feeling I'm being fed a load of pony from the OPC....

Options =
1. The dealer cocked up and didn't actually place a confirmed production order - they just (loosely) "assigned" you one of their allocated build slots.
2. The factory have been crap as they were completely overwhelmed with orders to find slots for and therefore confirmed late.

I believe that they plan "loose" orders from 6 months out, with "firm" orders 3 months from the production date. A build slot is only confirmed as "confirmed planned" 30 days from the date of "physical" manufacture (as this is when the internal orders for the components to produce it "go live"). You should then expect delivery within 30 days from this confirmation of manufacturing date.

Thanks for the info fella. It sounds like it could be a mixture of the above. Frustratingly nothing I can do about it however... cry
