Have had several Disco 3s, and am looking for something a change. Am considering an Amazon, probably an 07 or thereabouts, in 4.2TD format. I'd be interested in any experiences of living with them - service and maintenance costs. fuel consumption, refinement, general driving.

In terms of needs, I require a full 7-seater and proper off-road ability, so there are very few vehicles offering this!

Have bought and sold one or two, they are awesome beasts - never had any problems, never come back, they are a functional workhorse with all the toys but zero style - the excellent residual values of the Landcruiser Amazon even going back to 15 year old examples provides the evidence.

We spend a fair bit of time in Iceland and it's one of the most highly regarded vehicles over there. However, unless you're doing some SERIOUS off-roading a modern Disco will be a much nicer place to be when driving round town and on the motorway.

Towards the end of last year, I was looking at relocating to South America. Looking at our company car list in the countries I was considering, the choices were LC Amazon, LC Amazon and LC Amazon....

Having driven the 105-series Amazon in Australia I'm aware of the more agricultural nature of them, but the 100-series (the coil-sprung version we get over here) seems OK, though I've not done 1000-mile journeys in one to test. That's where the Disco really scores - it can be a limo, a mud-plugger and a snow-beastie without compromise, and I do sufficient long, fully-loaded trips to really value this aspect of its nature.

Really, there's nothing does what a Disco does any better than a Disco, but I just fancy a change.
