Well what can I say, I bought an old MX5 1999 knowing it had advisories on the last MOT for sill rust.I knew I had to address the problem sooner rather than later, otherwise any work done on the old tub might be in vain (may fail it's next MOT)I live near Nottingham in the UK and started my search of paint workshops which could carry out the restoration (I didn't want to tackle it myself as I am pretty useless at paint finishes) After visiting various workshops, I discovered to do both rear sills was going to cost circa £400.00 for a reasonable job. I had one other issue, most of the wheel arches were showing signs of rust also,so there was quite a bit of work done. I read quite a few articles on-line where people had experienced both good and bad work for £400.00, so where do I start looking? how do I know I am going to get a good job for a reasonable price? Well to cut a long story short one of the places I visited was Kimberley Coach-works in Nottingham, on arrival to be quite honest I wasn't over impressed with the look of the place, but after approaching the workshop I soon discovered this guy is serious about restoration as there was quite a few cars in different stages of restoration. I introduced myself to the owner 'Tom' a very polite guy and not at all pushy, Tom gave me a price on the spot, he said he would cut out all the rust areas and renew with new metal, and to my surprise paint the whole job in the original body colour (this was not offered by the other workshops, then I though (wait for it?) how much? Tom quoted me £500.00 all in...
I left my MX5 with him for 7 days wandering what sort of job he would do? the following Friday I made my way over to pick of the car (WHAT A FANTASTIC JOB) he had done a tremendous job, I was over the moon....
I can forward pictures of the work he did, my email address is oldhaap@gmail.com
I can do no other than to praise his work, and recommend him to any other people requiring this type of restoration work. Tom's company can be found at:

Just bought my third MX5. Icon 2000. 95k on the clock. All pretty good nick and paid just under £1000 for it. Has 12 months MOT so rust on offside rear wheel arch can't be that bad or could it be? I thought an MX5 with wheel arch rust would cause problems with MOT. Just because it passed does this mean I can probably treat rust myself? Not that practical but don't want to spend a fortune if I can avoid it. Any thoughts? Thanks.
