Morning gents

Random question, but I haven't been able to find the answer online so figured some clever soul on here must know. Schrader valves - the actual insert / core that comes out with the special little tool, are these all the same?

Reason I ask... Mrs Davie's car started weeping from the Schrader valve on the fuel rail last night. I nipped it up but it was still seeping so 'borrowed' one from the wee boys BMX which, give it its due, has sorted the fuel seeping issue.

But...

I assume these are all the same? Ie, the tiny rubber seals section from a valve core intended for a bike won't be eaten away by the fuel? The only difference is the one from the bike has a red rubber seal, he one from the car is black.

Anybody able to confirm if they're all the same ' grade' as it were?

Thanks

As you have found, they're all pretty much universal in fitment. However, They aren't universal in quality or probably seal material. I can't imagine a rubber seal which wasn't designed to sit in petrol it's whole life would last too long in that application, especially now there is a decent proportion of Ethanol in pump fuel which does eat certain rubber seal materials.
Basically, I don't know- but I wouldn't assume that because it fits it'll be fine.

As Russell says, I wouldn't expect it to last long. It's quite ridiculous how quickly petrol can eat its way through "normal" sealing materials, so I would be on the hunt for "fuel Schrader valves" or something like that. At least you know a universal part will fit, which makes it cheaper, but I would definitely want one that's designed specifically for sealing petrol!

They're used in air con systems as well, so I imagine there must be a decent automotive range available.
