Driving around yesterday and all i saw was white cars.

I'm much more of a fan of white cars than black ones, but only a few years ago, every rep-mobile was black.

I cant recall the last time i saw a black 3-series.

Yesterday i saw white bmw's, audi's, lexus', even kia's....

Im curious on the PH opinion - Is white just for typical audi drivers?

yes Very popular at the moment.

Especially on VWs, or so it seems to me.

Personally can't stand white on cars, but it's all subjective.

It's been popular for the last few years or more, you're late in noticing it.

White has been the new black for the last 2 or 3 years.

Brown is the new white.

Pfft, get with it! White's been the new black for more like 5-6 years!

But yes, brown is the new white. (Currently)

I happen to like white, especially with dark contrasts - the monochrome look smile

The Top floor of the city centre multi story is a sea of white and black cars under 3 years old. So depressing!

I'd like to think its because non metallic black and white tend to be no cost options but its probably because most people have no imagination.

Colours I think are largely dictated by the car makers. i.e. only 'x' colours are available, often shades of white to black stopping at grey and silver on the way.

Some car makers don't offer other colours, or charge a huge premium for anything interesting.

Also lets not forget most cars are not built to order, so it's the dealerships and larger the car makers who pick what colours end up on the forecourts.

Is it not called recession white due to white once being a no cost option? (I now imagine manufacturers are charging for it seen as 'everybody' wants it?

It took hold in 2007/2008 and for some reason it hasnt begin to reverse yet as more people jump on the band wagon. my girlfriends parents have just bought a Z4 and they were nearly swayed by the dealer as come resale it'll sell straight away in white because thats what everybody wants......pfffffft.

I just ordered a new car and white and black were free on 8 of the 9 cars I was considering.

I couldn't believe it either, if I was a manufacturer I would be charging for white to take advantage if its popularity even if it was only a couple of hundred £.

Never mind that white on an old car looks cruddy.
I think it's recession red now, believe solid red is the cheapest option on some cars.

When it comes to mainstream cars, it's just a fashion/fad. They'll go out of fashion soon enough and not be able to get rid on the used market.

Silver/Black/Blue are rarely ever "in" fashion so will rarely ever be "out" of fashion either.

The other fad is "wraps". Many, I'm sure, look great when new/just done. A few years of use and I suspect many will look tatty (esp the ones done on the cheap), will be poorly removed and create scratches/show crap on the underlying paintwork (which won't be the colour they want anyway biggrin)

I love white cars, but only up to a certain size, as it tends not to work on anything bigger than a mid-size saloon - and it has to be in the right spec

IMO top of the range and more sports focused models almost always look great in white, as does something deliberately cheap, such as a Dacia. But it doesn’t work on base models of the more “premium” marques when it just ends up looking cheap, base model A4 for example.

I’ve just ordered another white car to replace my current white car, no doubt that white is so fashionable now that it’s become unfashionable in certain quarters but I personally couldn’t care less if the car suits it.

And yes, certain manufacturers have cottoned onto its popularity and have started charging for it!
