I saw a 'how's my driving?' Sign on a van today. It made me wonder whether anyone had ever rung one? Also, does anyone work for a firm that displays one of these numbers and has been reported by someone?

I think it's like hiding in plain sight. Yes, the phone number's there for all to see, but how do you legally ring it? Perhaps:

- You have expensive hands-free kit or

- a memory good enough to not only remember the phone number but the vehicle reg/ID as well.

I suggest the average guy with a mobile is pretty well excluded unless he's been really wound up.

I have been tempted to call one and say...
"The way the driver took the roundabout was superb, a real credit to your company with his attitude to both time and motion efficancy."

I doubt anyone has praised the drivers who have these stickers forced on them.

I read somewhere that to log it properly they ask for your name and address.

Do you want a newly sacked driver round your house ?

Unlikely to happen but stranger things have happened.

On a related subject ,my driving has been reported to my company before due to the name and

phone number being plastered all over the lorry front, rear and sides.

The complainant even emailed a pic of my truck with number plate but i genuinely didn't know

when or where this incident occurred as they didn't give date or location.

I was helping to run a summer school activity and we were on a coach on the M4. Also helping was an off-duty policeman. When we were cut up badly and brake tested by a van he rang the number and gave them a full on bking. He had thirty kids as an audience and knew it. A truly magnificient performance that had the operator grovelly profusely and promising action and a round of applause from the coach when he finished!

A friend of mine got a telling off from his boss because he had been reported for his driving twice by people calling the number on his van. I'm not surprised the way he drives though.

I was with some work colleagues when a van with one of these cut us up on the A4 and we ended up hitting the curb. When I beeped him, he gave me the wker sign and (tried) to wheelspin off the lights. So yeah we rang the number just for a laugh and the women didn't sound impressed.

Another time I was on my motorbike and did the usual and passed a traffic queue to get to the front. The Royal Mail van took this really badly and followed me really close and was flashing his lights and tried to overtake. I knew exactly where he was heading - the Guildford sorting centre, so I headed over there and was waiting for him when he arrived a minute or so later. His face went white when I asked the security guard on the gate to see the boss.

I have once when I saw a van driver nearly run a woman over on a pedestrian crossing. They asked for my name but I don't think I gave my address.

A pal of mine has a tyre fitting business and he has one of these 'How's My Driving' stickers with phone number - however the number directs to a premium rate gay chat line!

Good heavens!

I can see why it's impossible not to give, or indeed to lie....

A few years ago I was being tailgated on the M6 by a bloke in a van. Usual story, lane 3, cars in front holding me up so it's not like I could go any faster. I let him pass later on and noticed that he had a 'how's my driving?' number on the back and also noticed it was the same as the mobile number on the side of the van. I reason it would just be the driver's own mobile so (when it was safe and legal to do so of course) sent him a text saying simply 'tailgating TW*T'. Got a reply straight away, where he made a derisory remark about my mother. Some amusing exchanges followed, which actually ended with him apologising for tailing.

Oh, you're gonna have to share those messages if you still have them hehe nicely done!

Interested to hear from others that action can occasionally be taken, though.
