Less than 100 miles on the speedo!

He only picked it up Saturday.

Thieves broke into the place he was at the time, found his keys and had it away.

The thieves must've been doing well to nick it at that speed!

At least the new 'owners' can be confident that it has a FSH.

Depending on what the thieves intentions are, given the fact that the car is so new it would be rather hard to clone. They'd have to be hanging around Audi/BMW/Whatever dealers to spot a like-for-like car plated up on a 13 reg.

Wow, I don't even know where to begin with that one....

I know that people working in dealers are seen as the lowest of the low from time to time on PH, but now not only are they untrained monkeys, they're also theiving scum who break into houses to steal cars and who only work at dealers for information related to cloning.

Are they all kiddie fiddlers too?

I have direct personal experience of criminal activity at a main dealership. It would break the naming and shaming rules of the site to say more but 2 people were arrested and found guilty of theft, amongst other things. So it does happen.

Sure but a 62-plate car could be sold suspiciously cheap just as easily and nearly as lucratively...

I know one case at an Audi Centre MANY moons ago where a an onsite valeter (outsourced) gave some thieves the keys and about £500,000 worth of stock went missing overnight. He never spoke any names to the Police because he knew there was a nice bonus when he got out of prison for his silence.

Only a 62 plate car would not tally with the date of registration if it was to be flagged up on a police ANPR.

If they were convicted then it's public information so it wouldn't break the rules. Was the case reported in the press?

How would they know, all the thief has to do is nick/clone plates off a genuine car of the same make/model/colour (but on a 62 or 12 plate), and the ANPR will be happy.

Only if they start checking chassis numbers etc will they find out the discrepancy.

The "automatic" bit of ANPR will be happy if the plate is valid - it doesn't recognise makes, models and colours, needs a human looking at the screen for that.

Yeah, I figured as much, I was kind of assuming that someone would be watching the screen and would spot if a white A1 should be a blue 3 series.

But maybe not.

True, but there is a good likelihood of the chassis numbers of vehicles with matching descriptions being checked. Once said Audi A4 (e.g) with S-Line kit, in white, with anthracite coloured alloys is put on high alert then the police should start pulling people over. I had this a couple of years ago driving a VW Bora through a town miles away from home.

However, if the thieves have done the job of cloning properly there is little chance this car will be coming back!
