Cars you hate everyone loves & cars you love everyone hates?
Discussion
Prepare yourselves, PH....
I hate
I hate the MX5. I've never been a fan of old Japanese cars, but the early MX5's remind me of this even more. The new one is very 'meh' but i generally find the styling of all Japanese cars a bit off, boring and not very enthusing. Maybe hate is a strong word, but it annoys me a little how PH has managed to elevate a very bland and plain car to almost deity status.
It strikes me as a bit of a girls hairdresser car, and every time i see a man driving one, i feel for his midlife crisis....
Now then, while on the subject of boring and weak styling...
I Love
The vectra.
Here's a little break to allow the PH rage warriors to pick their keyboard keys up off the floor and pop them back into place.
I've always been fond of the vectra, despite the fact everyone on here seems to hate them. The first big job i did on a car was a headgasket on a 2.2 Vectra B i bought off ebay for a few hundred quid.
The Vec C 3.2 GSi was great fun. The VXR was even more fun. So much car for the money. Dont pay attention to what that bafoon Clarkson says about handling. Very comfortable and lots of gadgets too. The 3.0 V6 diesel i had was the car i regret selling the most in the last 10 years.
I've owned 4, and i'd own another one all day long.
I'll hand my account in on the way out

Dont hate any cars really
Cars I dislike or would never be seen dead in-
Beetle old or new, don't like either
Original Mini and all the new mini variants, escept the cooper S and above, the sporty ones look ok
Almost anything pre sort of 1990ish
Cars I love that others hate
Porsche panamera
BMW X6

The Vectra C was a fine car.
I had a 2.8 V6 Turbo (same lump as the VXR) and it was awesomely rapid.
They are quite rugged and well put together (German); I bunged some Eibachs on mine and it handled quite well (a bit understeery) but not bad at all. It had absolutely everything on it, even down to externally dimming door mirrors (in addition to the more normal auto dimming interior one).
Nice looking hatch too, especially from the rear.

I know what you are saying about clarkson and vectras . a few years ago my sister was looking for a car . so as you do , i started looking for her . bearing in mind she has no interest in cars and driving .
i found a car supermarket with new but preregistered vectras which also had the balance of the manufacturers warranty . they were £5k for a new car . she refused to even look at one as clarksoin said they were rubbish . what car did she drive at the time ? a mazda demio , which was probably one of the worst cars i have ever driven.

Okay I'll completely disregard what he said about handling and comment from my own experience. They handle like a bag of you know what. The ride was stupidly compromised for what you gained handling wise (not a lot) and while they were kitted up well they are soooo bland inside.
I will say that they look nice, the seats are comfortable and in a straight line most of them (especially the Diesels and VXR) are rapid. Stupendously good value as well.
Tend to find every Vauxhall I've driven of that era (My mate owns an Astra H SXi and I learned to drive in a Corsa C) has been 'alright' at everything apart from taking part in a bit of a hoon. The previous generation was far better when it came to 'driving' imho.
I hate: Ferrari F355 - Felt like a posh Fiat in a (very pretty) frock, the engine made a lot of noise (that I didn't even find particularly nice) for not a lot of go and the Gearbox. Bloody hell the gearbox was dire.
I love: Old 60s/70s BMC/BL stuff. That's a big can of worms to open.
I thought Clarksons comments about the Vectra were about the original one which was IME frankly awful, and that was compared to my chariot at the time of an Austin Maestro 1.3.
I hate most ferraris after the 360 - bland and dull to look at.
Love the Nissan Primera - very very good steer for what was a rep-mobile and almost unkillable if you had the SR20 engine and serviced it right.

Clio 182.
Bought one. Don't know why. Hated it. Sold it in less than 6 months, after throwing money at it to keep it going.
Same here (172 cup) as much as i admired the cars strong points i couldnt stand owning it. The best thing about the car was the test drives before i bought one. Bought one. Don't know why. Hated it. Sold it in less than 6 months, after throwing money at it to keep it going.
