Rear Sill replacement

Hello all,

After 4 years of not having an MX5 Im looking to get one again. Went to veiw one last night MK2 1.8 47K miles, genraly very tidy however rust had started to develop on both sills. More so on the drivers side.

My question is what do they cost to replace and does anyone know anywhere arounds Leeds / Sheffield that can do the job properly?

Not in your area I'm afraid, but I just had mine done by TP Autobody Repairs in Bedford. They did both sides for £300, I would highly recomend them to anyone in the Bedford area, I had to buy the panels but you can get the full rear sill and wheel arch from Euro Car Parts for £75 each.

I think £500 seems to be the norm, but I had quotes ranging from £200 to £700.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the sills aren't structural, they're just an MOT failure because of the proximity to the seat belt mounting point?

It is the proximity to the seat belt mount points that fails the mot but while tge the sills aren't really structural, extensive rust in the sills will cause a loss of structural rigidity. Rust in the arches is just cosmetic.
