Hi Guys

Still very new to the car (got it last friday, MY2007 4.3), and discovered a new issue/potential problem.

Its rained the last few days and whilst driving home today I discovered a water sloshing noise everytime I braked.

It seems to be coming from the passenger door, The harder, I brake the louder the noise is.

Once parked, checked boot, fuel cap, door seals etc and everything is bone dry, so have no idea where the noise could be coming
from? Is it unrelated to the rain? Definitely the noise of water sloshing about, thats for sure.

Thanks in advance.

I had a similar issue (although not when braking) if you look at my original post here

This will give a few tips

reading this thread, sounds like it is trapped water in the door, as the noise is only apparent when braking.

How can I get this water out?

Previous threads talked about removing drainage plastic plug at the rear of the sills, or having drain holes drilled into door??

Where is this plastic plug? Will be annoying if I have to take it to the garage as I just bought the car (but dealer is 100 miles + away.

cheers

I got the dealer to collect mine and fix it, then return the car. The problem's not come back in over a year, so worth making sure it done properly.

I think they said they had to clear out drain holes with an air hose.

TADTS, genuinely worrying when I first heard it though!

First thing to do is look at the drain holes at the bottom of the doors.
I had a piece of plastic coated wire that I slid into the holes and as it happened they where clear.
The sills have a plastic plug at the rear of the sill just before the rear wheel arch, I took this plug out and went for a drive or you could park
on an incline with the rear of the car at the lowest point.
As it turned out this was not the issue with my car.
The other thing to look out for is that when you open for instance the drivers door after it has been raining you should see water running out from
the lowest point at the door (since the doors open upwards as well) indicating the water is draining out

I have an odd noise which comes from my doors when accelerating or breaking ( it comes and goes ). It sounds like a stone rattling around inside the door, but sometimes it makes more noise than I would expect, i.e. the rattle goes on longer than you would expect (I'm not explaining that very well, am I ?)

I took someone out in it a couple of months ago and they suggested it might be a wire knocking against the inside of the door.

Could it related to the water sound ?

Thanks for the tips Beoon, and good to hear from a fellow Glaswegian!

Could you please be a bit more specific on where to find this plastic plug you are referring to?

I opened the passenger car door, and looked along the sill and could only find screws, no plastic plugs.

There were some plastic plugs on the end of the door?

thanks

Okay, just been out and looked at my car
For the sill plug you do not need to open the door, just get on the floor.
At the rear of the sill right under the car at the start of the rear wheel arch work your way towards the front of the car
First thing you will see after about 2 inches is a Philips screw head, after another 2 inches a bolt head ( hex head) and after about another 2 inches again
there is a black plastic plug sunk into the sill, pull this out and retain it.
Regarding the doors, I could not get the plastic plugs off so at the very bottom of the doors there are some elongated holes, one at the very back of the door
a couple nearer the middle / front as you move towards the front of the door. I pushed in a plastic coated thick wire to make sure that they are clear.

so removed plastic plug at bottom of sills but hole was bone dry. Used a plastic covered wire
on all drain holes at bottom of passenger door, didnt seem to be blockages, and no water came out.

Also parked car, and tried swinging passenger door back and forth aggressively but didnt get any water sloshing noise thus now Im pretty confused?

Water sloshing noise was quieter today and only happens when I brake hard to come to a complete stop.

Could this just be the fuel in the fuel tank sloshing about as the noise come from the passenger side? I mean I only hear the noise when radio is off
and windows are down? I guess the only way to be sure is to see if the noise is still there when the fuel tank runs very low?

Never noticed this kind of noise on my previous cars?

Do any of you guys get a sloshing water noise when you break hard and come to a stop?

Hello, not sure if its in the above thread, but I have a DB9 and I had the same problem. For me it was the fuel tank.

Noise travels in cars really well, or badly which ever way you look at it.

The fuel tank, in the DB9 and the V8V, is behind the rear seats, the only way to access it is to take out the gearbox and Diff, then you can, "see", the tank, let alone work on it. I'm not saying work on it, I'm just telling you where it is.

I filled mine up, right to the brim (I don't think you should do that) I think AM manual considers that a grossly over filled tank. It needs air to let the tank work, I did it a couple of times with no ill effects. With the tank completely filled (to the brim), I then drove the car. The sloshing sound went.

I don't hear the sound anymore, but if I, "listen", for it, I can hear it..... smile

As it turned out the water noise in my car just disappeared through using it every day.
My car had sat outside on the Bentley dealers forecourt for a couple of months (Aug - Nov) when the rain was really heavy here, so I am assuming it just built up somewhere through time.

I am no expert, but i thought fuel tanks should have a set of baffles to prevent it sloshing around during cornering and breaking.

BTW - i have the same water sounds coming from the passenger side, the dealer is looking into this for me, will let you know what they come up with.

I had a water sloshing about noise coming from the passenger side sill area. its a 2012 V8 Vantage BTW. I took out the plastic plug but no water came out. However I could see a few drips coming from the sill cover / body work, where the body panel meets the sill. I banging it with my hand a few times and water stared coming out. It seems water can collect in the area behind the lower body work.

Get someone who knows the cars with an air hose to clear it out.

Shouldn't really rot, being plastic (sorry, "composite") and aluminium, but can't be good to have random gunk in there.

Water can collect in one of the many channels in the side sill extrusions. Take the front wheel arch liner out and you'll see a load of expanding foam in the end of the sill extrusion (its behind the ABS module on the passenger side). Poke a straightened metal coat hanger, or similar, into the foam, in the lowest part of each extruded channel and see if water comes out. The foam should be a few inches thick, so keep pushing till you feel it come out the other side.

I had a bucket full out of one side of a Virage.
