Having been sitting here for the last week and a bit recovering from a recent operation to take out metal work from an old leg wound I find the exposure to most daytime television that has punctuated my working from home not only mind numbing, as suppose I expected but at times totally soul destroying.

Needless to say, I've been continually flicking between the Discovery Channels and Dave simply to have some background noise that doesn't involve either inane chatter concerning antiques or even worse that Scottish dumpling who's on ITV in the morning. Loraine?

The General Dave diet of course consists of Top Gear and whilst I am not a fan of the rehearsed "and now it's time for the news" studio drivel, I have begun to warm to some aspects of the show. I have especially enjoyed those items that involve their buying cars for £1,500 or so and going on their trips.

On watching the Alfa Romeo episode today, it got me thinking that I might write a letter to Jezza and the boys suggesting that they do a similar thing with three TVRs. It would take more money, perhaps a £10k budget, but frankly they can afford it.
The breakdown in Top Gear / TVR relations has been well documented on PH but Clarkson certainly used to love a TVR and what he says goes on that show I'd imagine. Wouldn't it be nice a nice touch if the hatchet could finally be buried?

The destination could be LeMans and with £10k to spend Jezza of course turns up in a Cerbera gushing about its virtues. Hammond would no doubt turn up in Griff having been generous with his spending money. May could have a V8s or Chim.

Hammond would of course be doing his usual TVR "they smell like canoes" but I would like to see Clarkson be positive from the off. May, well May can be May.

So they start from the Top Gear studio early morning travelling down to the Chunnel where they meet several other like minded folk on the way with lots of cars to gush over (or not) etc, etc.

Plenty of scope for fun frolics and adventure to my mind.

So what do you think? Would someone like to takeover and write the next section of the story. Where do we go from here?

Good idea!,but what would Stig do? I think he'd need to be in a Tuscan race car or in a Sausage Egg And Chips 420 or 450.

However, and ultimately they'd demean TVR which is why it wouldn't work. Yes take them with a pinch of salt etc but they never seem to grasp what us chaps and chapesses feel about TVR. A bunch of not very clever piss takers really. James May seems to have slightly more about him but is always outgunned by Clarkson. I can imagine him at Repton or Haileybury or wherevever he went either being a bully or standing alongside the other bullies and smirking. Anyway. Might be better on Fifth Gear.

Stu.

Ps Do you think Top Gear monitor this type of chatter?

They did feature an S series in the episode where they went round the old factories with an Elan and an old Healey. They did have a good look around the TVR factory.

Didn't pre-cat cars have a 'better' sound by default?! Which cats did they do without?

Only if you want to see 3 TVRs wrecked in one the various ways they think is amusing that week.

Reading this, maybe Fifth Gear might want to take up the challenge to help claw back some viewers.
Without the destruction at the end.

Agree. They would do that annoying thing they always do of crashing into the back of Mays car because their brakes dont work. Or Hammond parking right next to Mays car so he can swing his door open and put a dent in Mays car. Its annoying when they do it with other classic cars but dont think I want to watch TVRs damaged needlessly .

Not sure they would do that with £10k motors but take your point.

They would. The cars would get wrecked. They'd get shunted, thrashed until they cook themselves and there would be hammers involved. All 3 cars would be destroyed. What TVR owners call niggles Top Gear would rightly call broken.

How about a slight variation, and have them do it in Audis instead? Noone who knows anything about cars will be sad to see one of those destroyed...
