It's that time of the year again, who is going? Who are you all backing through out the week?
We will be doing the usual £20 challenge in the office. Last year the winner turned his into £78 throughout the week. The only rules are, you must bet on atleast 4 races a day, and you must spend £20 or how ever much you have left.

A few of us were planning on attending this year but as its my wedding party this weekend (married in Jamaica last week) then I shouldn't be out blowing all of our cash just yet! I've been to Towcester a few times as its on my door step but nothing like the gold cup.
I may do aintree though in the week of the national.

The 4 most important days of the National Hunt Season and once again plenty to look forward to this year.
As for the betting, there's plenty of shorties on most days which I won't be getting involved in, however, I'll give you a trio that I like at good prices.
Day One
JLT Handicap Chase - Fruity O'Rooney
Came 2nd in this very race last year from a slightly higher mark, also ran on well to finish second to Katenko at the January meeting, Katenko subsequently was entered for the Gold Cup. Fruity O'Rooney is most consistent, always gives his best and the Gary Moore team have been in fantastic form this season. A double figure price should easily be achieved and he looks a good each-way bet in my book.
Novices Handicap Chase - Shangani
Venetia Williams has been in great form all season, her horses love the heavy going and her record in handicaps is sublime. Shangani has been progressing really well all year and this will be a great way to end the season. He was a fairly useful hurdler but has really taken to chasing well, he still looks to have plenty in hand, a double figure price is available and a good each-way prospect.
Day Two
Coral Cup - Pendra
Bought by JP McManus out of Charlie Longsdon's yard, Charlie believes this is his best chance of a winner at the Festival, AP McCoy has now been confirmed to be piloting. His form is good, especially his 2nd to Melodic Rendezvous in the Tolworth Hurdle which is very strong.
One of the keys to all of the above mentioned horses is that go well in ground that is either soft or heavy, the weather forecast looks grim and if they're able to describe the ground as soft on Tuesday they'll be doing well.
Good luck to everyone having a bet but most of all enjoy the Festival, 4 days of the World's best jump racing, I love it.

Our work betting fund is going big early on this year in hope of bucking our worrying trend:
Sprinter sacre 1/4
Pont Alexandre 13/8
Quevega 4/6
Simonsig 8/11
Returns £946
One of them will get turned over for sure, probably pont Alexandre.
I got a cheeky tenner on goulanes in the rsa chase at 50/1 last week, he's in to 7's now and can't decide whether to lay it off or not

£1 ew on these for now:
13:30 Pique Sous
15:20 Countrywide Flame, seemed worth doing at the price as he won me £45 winning the Triumph Hurdle last year
Last year was the first time I've ever put money on anything and I've done well with small bets all year at the major events, I'm at home all week so I'm looking forward to this again.

I went yesterday. First race backed My Tent or Yours - supposedly nailed-on, life-affirming, mortgage-enhancing certainty. f
ker came in 2nd beaten by a horse that none of the pundits even mentioned.
If I was that incompetent at my job the company would have gone bust years ago. Pundits know f-all.

First day at Cheltenham, and you didn't look around at all the people prior to the first race and think, "everyone is getting stuck into the drink, they've all got Champagne Fever"?

The clues were all there, they always are

Baily Green and Countrywide Flame placed and I had two wins on a small e/w accumulator, so I've had my money back and a little more, £6 up thusfar
3:20 Sanctuaire
4:00 Black Thunder
4:40 Pistol
my accumulator for today (e/w), hopefully my money back at least...
2:05 Pont Alexandre
2:40 Unioniste
4:00 Abbey Lane
4:40 Saphir Du Rheu

I'd play those 4 as a lucky 15 personally. E/W accy can be very frustrating as you may get 3 winners but one that places will ruin your return. I personally don't play e/w accy for that reason.
