Sorry abut the link. Yes it is to do with Formula E. Starting next year in 8 cities including London. Financed by a Spanish (would you believe) property tycoon. Teams will run in cars provided by the organisers costing 350k euros and will reach speeds of around 130mph. Each driver needs 2 cars as they only do 25 minutes on a charge. McLaren and a French company are reported to be involved in the design and building of the power train.

this line makes me laugh:
Each driver in the 20-strong field will change cars during the race, which will feature two mandatory pitstops.
This is presumably due to the sh*t batteries that last time i read the specs only lasted 20 mins - two cars for one driver! that'l be cheap then!

Yep, they need two cars to complete a race because a charge only lasts 20 mins this line makes me laugh:

There is an article on the telegraph site, where it rabbits on about "green racing" etc. Numerous people have added comments questioning how this can be considered "green" if they are shuttling the cars around by aeroplane
Utter farce imho. Electricity is not a "green" power source in the first place.
agreed, batteries are certainly not the answer, if i was them i'd give them a power figure they are not allowed to exceed but its up to them how they get there, as long as the car is zero tailpipe emissions. Nearly free regs, can-am style, with exception to safety where there would be rules regulating cockpits etc as there are now, to allow proper innovation and let the world's best engineering/design minds go wild. of course, because of the nanny state we live in that will never happen, oh well, nice thought
the argument about the environmental cost of transporting stuff to race is often made but it is complete bulls

nobody questions the environmental cost of 10 lots of 50,000 people travelling to a football match every weekend for the premier league, or the cost of heating swimming pools for swimming competitions, etc. etc.
