Has anyone had any experience in making a OBD link work with an Emerald ECU

Did some research and there is a standard data exchange format for modern ECU's - you can buy a OBD Link such as
this one -

or -

Why bother when you can plug a laptop in and read everything in real time scratchchin OBD port on this style of ECU is has much use as a glass hammer IMO wink as with all diagnostic scan tools its how you interpret the data that matters, unfortunately fault codes are not a definite (would make my like easier if they was) hence why I said about the laptop confused no offence like.

+1

I'd suggest that with the minimal sensor inputs that these kinds of ECU changes end up with (pretty often only crank position, throttle position, manifold air pressure, manifold air temperature, coolant temperature - maybe fuel temperature - and lambda) then an error code reader is gonna be fairly useless (the error codes thrown up by the original 14CUX in practical terms tend to be little more than "Houston - we have a problem - it might be something related to 'x' but go find it").

If you're using OBD to read real time engine data into some sort of display for temperatures / pressures then fine but generally all you'll have there that's of interest is coolant temp.

Laptop up its wazoo is the best way to go for anything else...

The #crazy idea was to use a smart phone - there is software to read from OBD systems to display lots of the regular data. I have a laptop for Emerald (in fact have cable from footwell up to centre console to make it easy to connect) - to do all the complex mapping etc - but it's not something to leave in the car constantly.
