Just about to start fitting Clive's Y piece and new manifolds - the seal between the Y Piece and the manifolds (where the clamp goes) is there any need to put a gasket sealant to negate the fit from blowing...?

The edges are clean etc, but want views on the approach I should take - do I just clamp up?

Thank in advance

I would put a little fire gum on joint, just to be sure. if you just use a small amount it won't be visable, it doesn't look good all over pipe

My take on this is that there never was any sealant.

Clamp them up while tapping the joint with a mallet to ensure a good seat.

After a few heat cycles, check and tighten.

If you do wish to use sealant, bit of silicone best.

I think the main thing is to get the lip on the manifolds cleaned up nice, i spent a bit of time making sure with this and then put a smear of exhaust paste(not gum gum stuff)on the joint, then finally as Phazed said just tighten and tap the clamps into position as you go.

exhaust paste is ok, but only a little, should be ok without.

Ratchet luggage straps are your friends, brilliant for pulling it all together without stressing the clamps.

I put a tiny bit on it....

....sounds lush - just took hours to remove manifolds etc and seconds to put the Y piece on... smile
