Has anyone on here used any of the companies advertised on the tv/web that will buy your/any car?

I would have rather used the car as a part ex against something else, but honestly cant afford any monthly repayments at the moment. (sitting on the possible redundancy pile and getting married in under 4 months frown )

I have been having trouble with my Focus TDCI recently (thread is in Ford section if your interested)
And have been honestly advised by my mechanic to get rid of the car before the engine/turbo goes, costing me a small fortune.

they have valued it online for just over 2k, and I assume they will find faults with the car upon inspection to further reduce the payment.
But just how picky are they? Do they take the piz with it?
the car isn't in 'mint' condition, its showing signs of its 7 years on the road with small scratches. theres no dents or major damage to the body. the interior is still in great condition, drivers seat is a bit dirty but nothing a good valet wouldn't get out, something I'd intended to do over the coming months. and I'd likely leave the seat covers on anyway.

Any advice from anyone who has used them would be great, or even from someone who works for them, you can DM me to remain anonymous if you like wink

Stick it in eBay for a week, anyone will buy a diesel car these days, not had a personal expirance with wbac or similar but there's a depot opposite my work and they seem to be very busy, they just seem to look around kick the tyres and then you either accept or reject. You can always say no. I would try eBay first and just be honest, a mechanic may pick it up as a project to sell on

I recommended a customer with a knackered/abused Q7 stick it up them rather than part exchange it with me. They chipped him about 400 quid off the web price for some scuffs and another 50 odd quid for the admin fee. The smoke, smell and knackered gearbox had no effect on price.

cheers both.

the body is in pretty good condition tbh, has the usual age related chips, and one or two small gouges/scrapes that have been left on the rear bumper by kind folk in car parks. but otherwise the body is good.
and apart from the engine issue is a good car.
So I am expecting a knock down from the initial £2,245 they have quoted. I only paid 2k for it in October. buying it off a family member as they didn't need it any longer and I was in the market for a new car. so if I get knocked down to that I'll be happy.

I have thought about sticking it on ebay. but my cousin has just had a right nightmare in selling his Fiesta Zetec S on there. still I guess I could put a reserve on it and if it doesn't go I haven't lost out yet?

and with listing it on Autotrader its difficult with me chucking all the hours I can in work, and having shift work can mean its difficult to get times to match up for someone to come view it.

I tried selling my old Panda privately last year (A base model bought new for £6k and just over 3 year old with 55k miles on it) Priced it at trade in value £2.8k.

Had absolutely no interest in it at all. Tried a couple of the we buy your car companies, and unsurprisingly they originally offered trade on-line then reduced offers once they saw the car,(one knocked £800 off as they thought it would need paint - the couple of stone-chips on the bonnet that had been declared). Eventually went to WBAC for £2,650 after their fee, which I was happy with.

Funnily enough saw it on a main-dealer forecourt, up for £3995, still with the stone-chips - they had it for quite a while although I think they are really in the business of selling finance and cars are just a handy thing to hang it on.

If you don't take it there you will never know. A salesman from wbac told me they buy the cars, group a few and sellthem to dealers. If you see a silver vw r32 57 plate with 41k stay well away

thanks for the advice so far.

have found a WBAC type company a little closer to home that has offered 2,300 for it online. so I'm taking it to them Saturday and see what they offer. have also booked a later appointment with WBAC just incase the first one really takes the mickey!

Bizarely since i updated the details on WBAC the price has dropped again, even though i incorrectly added more previous owners and higher mileage on the car for the initial quotation?? confused

seeing various valuations online i.e Glass & Parkers range from £2900 P/X or Private good - £2100 for a private poor sale, I obviously understand they will be looking to offer below the bottom price so they can then turn a profit.

like I've said I'd be more than happy to take 2k for it as I'd then have sort of broken even on it, if you don't include the £400 the new injectors cost me 2 weeks ago.

i'm accepting that the £2300 quoted by one company will be adjusted for stone chips etc so having that £300 to play with there as i see it is more acceptable, for me anyway. (maths/numbers, even man maths are not my strong point before i get any jibes for it wink )

Flogged my Mondeo (DMF about to go, very unhappy injectors, ECU starting to do strange things) to WBAC.

They gave it a quick run round the block, made sure that if they dumped it into fifth at 20mph it didn't stall, and argued massively about condition of the paintwork and seats - eventually we conceded it was "slightly below average" and they took £30 off the value.

Initial quote £1600, got £1540 after admin fee... happy enough.

ahh that sounds a little promising, I was expecting to lose about £20 per scratch/chip.

I'll see what they say Saturday I guess.

also spoken to a mate who just sold his car to a guy in a garage and he gave him the book price, despite it being almost a wreck. so may have other options if these WBAC guys turn out to be the crooks the web makes them out.

They offered me £2550 for my 330i Sport Touring - I was insulted at the time but after 4 weeks on autotrader and 2 tyrekicking ditherers at £4k ( which is cheap IMO bearing in mind the low mileage and excellent condition ) its maybe not the insult that I thought it was.

If it doesnt go by the time the autotrader ad runs out though I'm keeping it - I'm not going to give it away.

My brother had wbac value his subaru impreza, online he was offered £2500 then when they arrived to check it over they tried to knock him down to a tad over a grand iirc. He sold it privately for £2900 a few days later.

I used webuyanycar today. I'm actually pleasantly surprised overall. I got a little put off the online reviews (dating back to 2010/2011) saying they consistently knocked off 25% of the value... For me they knocked off about £50 because my wheels were well scuffed. In fact he only marked 2 down as scuffed to compensate for the fact that I had extras that they don't usually pay extra for.

Quite reasonable and worth checking out if you've declared all the things on the online form, and the valuation is to your liking...

well took my car to one of these places Saturday. I still have the car as I wasn't taking 1/2 the valuation price.

after taking the car for a quick spin, he looked it over, I saw him make a few notes of marks and scuffs.

went back to the office where he calculated £150 for each 'flaw' telling me that the front wing will need respraying for a 2cm long car park graze. and that my rear passenger 3/4 had a dent in it that would need pulling out. I've looked over the car 3 times since then, and been to 2 garages to have it valued against a P/X and mentioned he saw a dent in the panel, one garage even got a body shop technician out and not even he could see it!!

overall he knocked off almost £800 for tiny scuffs and dings. I laughed at him when he said practically all of the car will need respraying and that's why he was offering so little for it. I told him I'd take it to a garage that has resprayed my mates car for less than £500!

he even tried to say that they would need to put a new tyre on the car before they moved it on as one is close to limit. another £150 for that!!! I can get a full set of linglong budgets for that!

Most scuffs I've been told can and will t-cut out! so I'm getting them done and listing the car on autotrader or ebay!
