I am currently looking at the following cars:

- 2000-2002MY Bentley Arnage Red Label or "T"
- Mercedes Benz S350 or S500 W221 2006-2007 MY
- Jaguar XJ X358 4.2 LWB, 2008-2009 MY

Yes, the Arnage is probably the most PH-worthy car, but what about the other two? Opinions?

No comparison in my opinion, W221 S Class.

Why?

XK 2006-2007 might also be an option
and, althought over my budget, a 2006 CL500

MB would have spent the most R&D money, so more likely to be the better car.

My only fear is that it might look too much like a company car.

Well, the car is peerless in my opinion as a mode of transport. It's as solid as a rock, reliable, rides superbly, handles superbly, decent economy. There is a reason it's Mercedes flagship "car" (not sportscar). You can't compare an S to any of the other cars they make, it is a big step up in quality and solidity. The W221 was also a massive step up from the previous model especially on the quality front. Doors like bank vaults and excellent trim quality. I think you need to take one on an extended drive and see for yourself. I have owned a SWB 320 CDI and currently drive an S65 AMG (LWB) I bought for relatively cheap money. I still haven't driven a better "normal car" and I've tried all manner of cars/4WD's/sports cars etc. I would go for a SWB unless you need the extra space or as in the S65 that's the only option. If you can afford the fuel get the 500, otherwise go the diesel. It's silent inside anyway and has gobs of torque.

Bentleys are a bit too gauche for me, and when they break, break the bank. The Jag is a nice car too but IMO is in no way comparable to an S class.
