130i problem, please help!

Evening all,

Of late I've been having an intermittent fault with my 130i. The engine flashed up in amber a couple of weeks ago. Took car to garage to read fault codes and it just came up as Vanos. For some reason (I didn't take the car to the garage myself, my dad did), the mechanic cleared the fault code.

Since then the light has returned intermittently and usually occurs when engine cold however clears on a long run. Light is off at the moment but car is going back to dealers on Monday to have error codes read and to be fixed.

I was hoping however that someone may know what this could be.

Additionally, the car was purchased from a independent dealer who are trying to claim that their warranty doesn't cover the suspected fault (solonoids). However the car was only purchases just over 2 months ago and anything Vanos related is likely to be expensive. Do I have any recourse here in terms of SOGA or the such?

I'm surprised to hear of VANOS problems with the 1 series already? I thought that was all over and done with.
BMW should really speak to Honda regards Variable valve technology that doesn't break?!
