Suggestions pls...

For those of you with grey RSs with what do you polish/wax your P&Js?

I think I'd like it to have a deeper glossier (even wet) look and wondered what would be best before I start buying product and experimenting...

Thanks very much.

Any major brand these days.

The question you need to ask is.

Wax or a nano coat like gtechniq.

The latter will give more a wet look and last longer.

But Zymol carbon
Or
Autoglym HD wax are both great cheaper wax's

But there are 100's to choose from , it all down to prep.

Hi Porka,

If you wan't a wet look what you need is a glaze. Poorboys makes a glaze I'm very happy using. This is where ou get the wet look from.
You need to apple some protection over the glaze, because it just washes off.
For protection you can use either wax or sealant og a combination.
Dodo juice makes very good waxes that are a jou to apply, you can use Purple Haze on the darkish grey you have. Orany off their waxes in fact.
I normally also use the Poorboys sealant because it is very easy and fast to apply.
Glaze, then sealant, then wax.

It will shine like a mirror if you do this.

It's generally agreed that a good wax gives a deep, wet, glossy look, whereas a sealant gives a harder, more reflective, mirror like look (not the other way round!).

In my view sealants are best suited to white and metallic cars where they highlight the reflections. A wax may be more suited to the colour of your car. However, the differences in look are not day and night.

Wax is generally harder to apply, and does not last as long as a sealant. So my choice would be based on longevity (how often can you be bothered topping up) and ease of use.

Very very easy, fairly cheap and quite durable - something like opti seal, which is a spray on sealant. Described as the ultimate protection and reflection.

Very easy, more expensive and fairly durable - something like Naviwax. This is a wax which gives a deep, glossy, wet shine. This would be my choice on your car. They do a naviwax dark for darker colours.

For less easy, cheap and very durable try something like fk1000p. This is a sealant which comes in a wax form. It is very durable and gives a really good shine. A tin will last you years.

A glaze is an optional step after polishing, before waxing or sealing. Glazes generally don't protect a car's finish, but fill in any remaining swirls and imperfections.

Wax gives the more mirror deep look imo :-)
A sealant makes it shiny and you can loose the mirror look as you get a more reflective finish which is not mirror like imo.

But as I said in my 1st post, the big question is nano coat or a wax finish.

I always wax darker cars, and use werkstat on white light silver cars.

Wax you will just get an answer to what every one uses or sells which can be pages long.

So far we have had
Zymol
Dodo juice
Autoglym HD wax
Swiss vax
Poor boys
Naviwax

You get the idea lol

I think most look he same and I still say it's down to prep.
Then you choose a wax or the gtechque finish. ( werkstat is not the right one for dark grey but I do my white cars in that and they look great, not found a better easier product for a white car to date)

I can post 50 cars pics most of them my cars which all look like a mirror and I own 5 of the above finishes.

Totally agree it is in the prep.

Megs ultimate quik wax is superb for a £13 quid off the shelf halfords job.

Zymol Glasur is very good if you dont mind taking a little more time - it looks great over Prima amigo glaze.

Spot on.

Try Rejex.

http://corrosion-x.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=Rejex...

Easy to apply, equally easy to remove, leaves the paintwork very smooth (which makes for incredible beading) seems to last for ages (a massive bonus as I detest the whole polishing routine) Not expensive either.

Thanks for the replies guys.

My white Gen2 GT3 was SwissWaxed from new but I didn't think it was that great, but looks good on your car OT.

I had had my daily drivers Permagarded back in mid 2000s after the Evo article on them, and the shine and protection was amazing...I guess that was a nano sealant type technology? I imagine Gtechniq is an equivalent today? Before that in the 90's, I used to use AutoGlym (red label stuff) and build up a few coats of that and then put the Super Gloss (gold label) as a sealant over it...as you can tell I was merely an amateur, but my cars have always been spotless inside and out and consequently have been very quick to sell when the time came.

What I don't want is white or dull residue around all the decals or in any paint pits on a grey car so what Alpinstars and Mr Demon suggest may be the way to go; however, I want any track day deritus to just slide/fall away when I get a hose on it...so that suggests a nano or sealant type if ve understood correctly?

Either way I can see I will have to do a lot more research and reading on each of your suggestions which is no bad thing...if only there was a definitive way to go!

Rejex is excellent for this reason, as I said previously, I detest the whole polishing routine, you can get Rejex on pretty much any trim be it gloss or matt, and it wipes off without leaving any residue. I put it on everything including glass (which it keeps waaaay cleaner than all the other glass cleaning/sealants I've used)

Eh???? Confused or what. It's either reflective like a mirror or not? A mirror finish is bright and reflective but not deep, which is exactly what a sealant does. With a wax you lose some definition but gain warmth and depth.

To the OP, if residue is an issue then don't go for fk1000. Naviwax has zero residue as does opti seal.
