Hey folks hopefully a quick one regarding a exhaust issue I have if anyone can help or add input.

I have an old Forester S Turbo (99) and the original exhaust has gone rotten on the joints right the way through from the down pipe to the rear box.

Went to the exhaust centre and it would seem I'm looking at the best part of £600 to replace so I rang Hayward & Scott and ordered a full 2.5" system from them for a little bit more.

In my haste of ordering it only hit me when it arrived that I may have to have the car remapped due to removing the catalytic converters?? which is a bit of a pita given it's only the "dog car" that i don't really want to throw at lot of money at!

I have looked on various forum's looking for answers, some say yes it needs mapping and the same amount again say no don't bother. I've a good MOT tester so not concerned whether or not it will pass it's MOT more concerned about doing damage to the motor.

I don't hoon around in it and have the turbo lit up everywhere I bought the stainless system purely for the peace of mind i'd never have to replace it again more than for performance gains.

Can anyone throw there experience or advice in.. Remap or leave it it'll be fine??

If you change the exhaust system and go decat you will need a remap as going decat tends to do things like cause turbo overboost.

However, on the plus side if you do go that route get yourself a high flow flat panel air filter to replace the factory standard one. Then a remap will net you some very nice gains.

Your Forester is only and Impreza on stilts so you would treat yours in the same way you would and Impreaza.

You'll need to see an EcuTek dealer to remap yours. thumbup

Thanks for that, if I go down the Ecutek route I'll change to a TD04 to get the best out of it if I have to spend £500 on a map and have my pants pulled down!

Unfortunately Open Source doesn't do 99/00 Impreza or Forester. If it did would be a lot cheaper than £550-£650+vat EcuTek cost. ESL are now working on a 'Live Mapping' solution for 99/00 cars, that might come out in the next few months if you're not in a hurry but will cost about the same as EcuTek. smile

Yeah I've looked into the daughterboard this afternoon but as Alan jeffery is only 40 minutes away In Plymouth I think I'll give him a bell tomorrow regarding ecutec and a TD04 of some description and liven the old girl up a little!!

I think from what I've read today he does it for £500 all in with VAT for the mapping and licence.
