As subject line im looking to convert my front plate to a sticker type:

Is it a case of taking of the numberplate screws then mounting screws and then being left with a couple of small holes you can hide with the sticker numberplate?

Thank you

J

Yes. Unless you want to get them filled properly.

This is about as low as I could get one as the vinyl was quite thick and was worried about the contours lower down. If you heated it up that maybe an option if you want to fit lower down.

Any legal issues to be aware of above and beyond font type/ size?

Much easier to place on a Mk2.5

Never had a problem with legality. The plate, letters & spacing are all the right size. It doesn't have a "reflective" backing but I don't think anyone really cares much about that. Never had a problem with MoT or the police, even at a PH meet in a public carpark when the police turned up and started handing out tickets for missing/illegal plates in an attempt to move us on.

This is the best picture I could find of my UK mk1 1.8 with the stick on plate:

I had it like that for over 5 years and over 90,000 miles without any problems, including getting pulled over by the police for other things...

Here's mine!

Also, you may have more than 2 holes lurking under the plinth when you take it off.

I got mine from a guy from the OC Eastern Region. It's black letters stuck onto a white background.
I've had it on for a good 6 years or more and there is no creasing or peeling. There are a number of stone-chips but nowhere near as much as the surrounding paintwork frown
