How squishy is the ride in a CRV?

Hello Happy Hondists.

I need a car with a very soft squishy ride that will absorp the worst of our roads, I have neck trouble and I'm suffering with the crasty ride in the Civic, but I'd like to stick with a Honda.

What's the CRV ride like? Nice and squishy?

Depends on which generation CR-V you're after and which spec (wheel size etc).

My '57 plate EX car (18 inch wheels) is pretty good but my neighbour's ES car on 17 inch wheels is better.

None are harsh to be honest.

Driven a few previous-gen EX's (as above) on 18s, and they're fairly firm for an 'all-round' SUV.

A good friend has similar neck issues (has had 3 vertebrae fused due to cartilage problems), and struggles with a lot of modern cars. Old (90s/early00s) French cars seem the best...but 10y.o. French cars aren't going to be a trouble-free ownership experience...

I'd test-drive a few things on the same day back-to-back, preferably on the smaller wheel option - if you find a nice car with bigger wheels, it won't cost much to swap...

I broke my back four years ago - I found Peugeots to be fantastic, If you can get in and out I would seriously recommend the 406 coupe- it has adaptive suspension that just soaks up bumps!

Our 2005 rides very nicely, in the front at least. Bit bumpy in the back. That is on 17's (215/60R17), perhaps a touch firmer than the original 215/65R16's.

OP, suggest you specify which year - there was a complete model change (not just a refresh) in 2007...comments about an 06 car when you want an 08/09, or vice-versa, won't mean much.

The new CRV (4th gen) on 17" wheels, is very smooth over rough / pot-holed roads.

I'm on a 3rd gen EX with 17" - don't feel the pot-holes too much (which says a lot for Edinburgh's road, as they are used as the Scottish standard for just how bad roads can be!). Previously had a 1st Gen also with 17" and that too was quite good.

Tried a BMW X1 and X3 - Ouch! Also tried a Zafira - not quite so bad an ouch, but not as good as the Honda.
