New license arrived.Noticed mistake -check yours on renew

My new license arrived today. My old paper counterpart was taken along with a load of other stuff so I contacted the DVLA and the woman advised me that mine is running out soon anyway so why not renew while I'm at it too rather than just a replacement.
Got it today and there's a lot of unexpected stuff to it you guys want to be aware of.
The first thing I notice is that on my paper counterpart I have 'BE' category listed but it's listed as not allowed on my plastic. That looks like a simple [b]clerical error I should be able to fix - check yours (I passed in 2004). BE category is related to towing things.
The next thing I notice is that I have no listing for 'L' category so it looks like I can't drive an electric vehicle. Bummer!
Then there are 2 more limitations on what I can do that I didn't think I had before.
First, I can't ride 125cc bikes, only 50cc - I thought I get 125cc with age?
Second, I can't drive a vehicle that weighs over 3500kg. I need to watch out on that because mine wieghs I think 3000kg already so I've only got 500kg for a trailer and everything inside.
That said I do like the grid on the back. All this is EU related. It's a ballache for us but that's usually the UK interp of it - they just want it clearer, and it is - which is why it's only now I'm picking up on these things.

I believe you had to pass pre 97 to have the entitlement to drive more than 3.5t, and to get any bike as standard.
To ride even a 50cc I think youll need a CBT, and you would need to pass a fair few more tests to get the other categories you mentioned.
I dont know what you drive thats 3t, but you will have to be very careful

if you passed in 2004 you will have to take a B+E test to have B+E,B+E grandfather rights ended with the 1997 changes

you've just been utterly ignorant of what your licence covers since 2004
it appears the mistake is the OP not the DVLA

Worth checking. Lots of stories of motorcyclists getting their new licence and finding their motorcycle category has been removed.
One person submitted their pass certificate to the dvla as proof that they'd got it wrong and was then taken to court for fraud.
The dvla are apparently ALWAYS right.

Thanks.
It all clear now.
The only error I think I have is the BE provisional not being listed on the card but since its only provisional I'd need to pass a test to make it valid anyway.
Yes it seems since I'm post 1997 all the other stuff is my own ignorance. The new license does make it a lot clearer including to foreign traffic cops.
I'll send the card back to get the BE matching the counterpart and stop towing! Reading up, it seems its common for people not to know this.
Hmmm... maybe it might be better to qualify in a different European country if you have the option...

if you haven;t got a full entitlement it DOES NOT appear on the card .It all clear now.

provisionals do not need a test to be 'valid' - they are there to allow you to drive that category of vehicle in line with the learner's regualtions forthat class of vehicle
that said cat A (motorbikes) and p (mopeds) would require a CBT for people with recent licences.

if you do not have BE you can tow in certain circumstances.I'll send the card back to get the BE matching the counterpart and stop towing! Reading up, it seems its common for people not to know this.

AFAIK the Uk was one of if not the least restrictive country in the EU pre 1997 changes, I don't think there are any places with 'freebie' categories any more.
yeah, I drive a lwb high t4. I always imagined it as 3T but maybe that was just a guess I had made in my head because the swb is 2.5t. I used to have a braked trailer. Can't remember the weight, probably only 300kg itself and then max load I ever took was also quite light, maybe 200kg. All in all, sold the trailer now anyway but better find a weigh bridge.
I would prefer the BE category to be shown on the plastic as A and P are? - with to and from with the code exception... seems inconsistent and wrong to me? - Otherwise a cop here or abroad will look at the back of the license and instantly see no picture of a trailer. If you are using the "with some exceptions" part of B category this card could give you a headache because there's no picture support of that which I've noticed is what they look for.

Only the licences you have are on the plastic. I was sat next to a guy at the DVLA on Friday who had had his license returned with a medical note on, nothing to do with him! It apparently now said he needed glasses, which he has never needed.
Sounded like he was a driver as his boss had sent him down and given him a telling off as apparently its a large fine if pulled.
