Cilex course

A friend is 33 and looking for a career change. Currently working in dead end jobs, but is intelligent just never really pushed himself.

He was thinking about a job in Law and a Cilex was mentioned as a good starting block as it can be completed whilst still working (not in law industry)

is it a worthwhile choice?

Legal Execs typically combine training with employment in something law-related. One route to qualification is to get a law degree, rather than the Cilex Law & Practice Diploma. This can be done part time - the OU course is well regarded, but there are others. A part time undergrad degree is lengthy but less pressured than a PGDL, which takes only 18 months part time.

Part time study in your 30s requires great motivation and self discipline, but the benefits are (IMHO) huge. Law is a competitive vocational choice, but the work can be tremendously fulfilling.

This. He should absolutely make sure he is ready for the challenge, because it's no walk in the park. If he's got no kids, it'll be easier. If he's got no partner, it'll be easier still... But it's still difficult.
