Can anyone suggest a recruitment company or agency for jobs at Gatwick.

I am moving to the area and would like to get my foot in the door. Even if it means taking a step back and doing an air-side manual role.

Try BAA, TAG Aviation, Servisair, or any of the big carriers.
A lot is also done through agencies like www.aviationjobsearch.com
Or get down the airport and ask.

I'm not sure I'd call that a backward step if you're doing nothing.

Indeed. But I should have worded my reply better. I want to work at the airport and despite my 'career' background am quite happy to get a foot in the door in any role.

Could you get a job in the control tower?

"clear to take off"
"clear to land"
"expedite"
"go around"
"you've gone the wrong way"
etc

Good idea, that's even easier.

"What does this button do?"
"what time's happy hour?"
"Where are we?"
"My wife doesn't understand me"
"Engage autopilot"
"I'm just going to have a kip"
"check" hehe

GAL (Gatwick Airport Limited) operate the airport and have jobs on their site for them.
And as already mentioned there are also numerous other companies operating there.

Also there is quite a large industrial estate between Crawley and Gatwick, with the Virgin and a few travel agencies head offices there and companies like Thales
