Bought some Maldon oysters on Saturday, we had a few in the evening and they were very nice, they should have been used up yesterday but plans changed, (see show us your dinner thread), so I've still got a dozen unopened in the fridge.
I normally eat them on the day of or maybe day after purchase but just haven't got time to eat them tonight either, I should be able to get at them tomorrow evening but they will be three/four days old, I think they will be alright, any thoughts anyone?

They'll live in the fridge for quite a while, just only eat those which are lively once opened.
That's no safeguard, however. I think the majority of 'oyster poisoning' nowadays is due to norovirus, which you can get no matter how fresh they are.
I'm a keen wild food forager. However, I only ever collect shellfish or seaweeds from open coastline; never in/near estuaries due to the risk of contamination with sewage.
Unfortunately, estuaries are where the majority of native UK oyster beds lie. Hence I don't eat oysters.

As an ex-Whitstable resident I've probably eaten my own weight in Oysters. Not aware of any undesirable side-effects but then the Thames has become pretty diluted by the North Sea by that point. I also ruin them by having a penchant for lots of shallot vinegar mind.
Anyway, would a workable compromise for the oysters be a decent crispy batter, lots of lemon juice, some brown bread and butter and a nice ale?
