It's been suggested to me (by a Porsche dealer) that prices may harden and possibly start to go back up with the 991 GT3 being launched as PDK only and at a higher price tag than the 997 GT3 had when new.

What do people think?

Disagree, as there's enough cars available for sale relative to the number of buyers just now. This should not change much over the next few years. It's not like the recent surge in prices of the 94 RS which was made in much smaller numbers.

I'd like to be proved wrong though !

Lets split this in to two questions.

1 - dealer wants to talk up prices? Natch.
2 - will it actually happen? Of course not, the 991 will be so fast as to render the previous cars as irrelevant.

I agree with this for a number of reasons. In general, I think the firming of values will have more to do with the technological shift than it has to do with the price of the new 991 GT3 which I think is pretty much bang on.

With the 991 GT3 available in PDK only, it wont belong before all of us 996/997 GT3 owners will be treated as the old bearded ones...

Whilst Porsches are rarely sold by traders with anything other than a quick glance at "book" (except perhaps when they're buying your car); the gap between the "book" and what some of the Porsche dealers are charging is amazing!

Speaking to one dealer, I worked out that they will only buy stock in with a minimum of £8K of margin built into the price and ideally over £10K! I know the Porsche warranty and the inevitable paint refresh etc costs money - but that's huge!

That bid/offer is current market for OPC (does include costs for 2y warranty + porsche assist) though

Plus they are business and they need to survive in the current climate.

Prices will harden. They always do when a new more expensive model comes out. Happened when the Gen1 997 GT3 was released and also when the Gen2 was released. I just traded my Gen2 to an OPC and got really good money for it.

None of us like the trade in values but as said above they are a business. Premises, staff, courtesy cars, depreciating stock etc all has to be paid for

Good news and yes the Gen II's seem to have been less affected by the dreaded depreciation in the last year! Are you going to get a 991?

Does that mean I can get the horse brasses out of the loft from when I sold my last 993?

That's cheap. Ferrari / Lambo will work to £15k to £20k

From what i can see the GT33.8s are dropping to around the £70/75k,tops, mark depending where you buy. This will make the mk1 drop more also.

I think its too soon to expect prices to harden for 997 GT3, gen 1 or 2. They will still depreciate similar to the 996 GT3, then level out in my view. What happens after say another 4-5 years is anyone's guess, but as the last of the mezger engine and last of the manual box, and still made in relatively small numbers they will never drop that low. Cars like the 4.0 and GT2 RS will be mega bucks I reckon in 10+ years time.

As always, condition and history will determine value, with the GT cars still being fairly mileage sensitive whether good/bad for the car it's still the case that low mileage is more sought after and will be priced accordingly.
