Advice on an old imported MX5
Discussion
I have a Mk1 MX5 which I've been racing in the UK and am now selling. It's been owned by a few "racers" before me. I have a buyer but they want to register it on the road so they can drive to track days. The car doesn't have a VIN, V5 etc so I suspect it was imported by someone to use as a track/race car. The car does have its chassis number (NA6CE-139360). In order to register, it I have to fill out several forms but I also have to show it was imported properly (which I will struggle to do but understand they will still consider the application if I can't)and also get a certificate from Customs & Excise to show duty and VAT were paid when it was imported. I have no idea if these were paid (presumably they will check based on the chassis number)and therefore might be liable for these. The value of the car is probably c.£4,000 to reflect the upgrades for racing but clearly a similar donor car would be a lot less. Has anyone come across this before or anyone idea how they'd decide on the value of the car i.e. current value, value when imported (whenever that was), value of an equivalent car now?! Thanks for any advice.
Why give yourself the hassle? Sell it as a track only car and let the new buyer have the headache of registering it imo. Or they could always transfer everything into an already road registered shell as they'd still most likely be getting a bargain against the cost of buying all the bits seperately.
