Looking for somewhere that has a good selection of "interesting" beers: continetal lagers, weissbiers, pilsners etc etc

Somebody has suggested the Mariner in Stoney but we're really looking for somewhere in the city.

Any suggestions?

Marine in Stonehaven is great! However, try the Brentwood Hotel, Crown Street in Aberdeen - http://www.brentwood-hotel.co.uk/ - my dad swears by it and he loves his beer! Or the Prince of Wales in Aberdeen.

Hope this helps.

Prince of Wales and Brew Dog of the top of my head. Plenty of decent pubs in Aberdeen.

The Moorings down near the Harbour has an amazing selection of beers from around the world.

Brew Dog is a great shout for craft beer.

Morings is a good recommendation, definitely followed by brew dog.

The 'Moorings' down by the harbour is great, but up here they pronounce it 'Moerrrrings'. A bit of a biker/metal/emo/dive bar, but it's a brilliant place if you fancy having a laugh and some great drinks. Try their cockatils, awesome and strong do not sum them up biggrin

Brew Dog can be good, but it's quite 'scene' and some of the brews can taste a bit like ass.

If you want great cocktails then Barr 99 (on Back Wynd near the front of the taxi rank) is cracking.

+1 for 99 and also the Tippling House (old Belmont bar) is fantastic for cocktails. Both are what I'd call "higher end" bars.

There's always the Hen Hoose!

I like 99 a lot but every time I've ever seen the staff doing cocktails they either don't know how to make it, start making it then realise they're missing some key ingredient or make it but take 45 mins to do so.

It's not bad for cocktails so long as they're not too busy (in fact that doesn't just apply to cocktails, they're usually a bit slow in there in my experience) but Dusk is the best place for cocktails IMHO.

I'm a big fan of Brew Dog for interesting beers and the like, Ma Camerons is good for pub food and watching sport too.

For Weissbier and Hef, etc, definitely the Moorings. Nothing else comes close. My old boss, Flash, owns it - and whilst the clientèle can, er, be a tad forbidding in appearance, they are a nice bunch. The Athenaeum has a decent selection of drafts, not a Tennents in sight.

Prince of Wales is fine for bitters/IPAs etc, but has a poor selection of continental and pilsner types. Brewdog is very dependant on what they have in as guests - I'm one of the few who likes almost all their own stuff. Tippling House has a very limited, even disappointing selection of beers (just stuff from that Alloa brewery), but fine for cockytails.

I've found that a few times, usually on quieter days with new staff who are very new. Luckily we know the right staff to make our cocktails. A good Mai Tai in there is ahard to beat!

Not had a cocktail in dusk, Orchid is supposed to be good, but we stick to Amicus/Paramout/Nox as one of the lads has a nice Wood Group discount card wink

Yup forgot tippling house. Only been there a few times but it's great!

Yes yes, we've gone onto some cocktails, but don't knock them till you've tried them.

Orchid is OK but I find their cocktails either too sweet or too sour and I can never taste any alcohol in them. Dusk is just better IMHO.

Brew Dog is good, as is the Prince of Wales and occasionally Ma' Camerons.

I have heard about a place called The Globe Inn that supposedly has some nice beers on tap.

Old Blackfriers is nice and occasionally has some interesting beers, but it is pricey.

The Globe has my approval.

Anyway, this has all been done before ... and the conclusion was the same ... go to The Moorings.*

* Website has sound.

Cheers,

I remember that thread but those are interesting pubs, not necessarily pubs with interesting beers! We're on a quest to teach a colleague what good beer is...
