I need a hug!

Well - now that awkward moment is over with...

I'm buying, and need inspiration. I've just returned from a trip to the homeland (NZ) and having been driving a few cars around, realised what is missing from my life, and want to buy one here.

I'm thinking of spending £4-5K on a car. I'm currently looking at E30 325i Sports (having owned a few in the past) since I love E30s and E30 M3's are now in crazy $ territory. I've listed a few cars that have crossed my mind, and what I want it for - would love to open up to your ideas. I've owned a bunch of E30's and an E36 M3 Evo - love something older, ideally RWD, easy/cheap to maintain. My budget is a little flexible up or down - but I'm a strong believer in getting as much fun from £5K cars as £20K ones. Although I drove a Murcielago last week and was a fan...

I really liked my E30 Sport idea but they are all rusty, and kinda overpriced for what they are. I don't mind paying though, as I have a ball in em. might be time to try something new! I have zero need to worry about women, children, small or large animals and other peoples feelings in general.

Purpose:
Spirited motoring
The occasional track day
Dreams of a continental jaunt
2 laps of the 'Ring

My thoughts:
E30 325i Sport
Boxster
S2000
205 GTi crossed my mind

I have seen many ranty threads here - I have big hopes. Open to the crowd

Tidy E30's have a better image than 36's IMO though there is plenty of council'd up tat in both camps!

E30's good fun on track but not that fast, you will want to do lots of upgrades before long.

A fact a lot of people forget is that both E30 and 36's are ultimately 4-door luxury saloons and therefore compromised in terms of pure fun.

E46 330i? ideas?

Scarily, around the same price as a decent Sport E30

I've got both the 205 and the Boxster and I don't think either could be kept as my only car.
The 205 is the fantastic car that everyone talks about but at the end of the day it is a 23 year old French hatch, mine is relative luxury with electric windows, power steering and leather seats but at the end of the day it's noisy and squeaks a tad.
The Boxster is juicy and with the roof up a little cramped.
What about a 306 GTI 6 or an E36 328 convertible in superb condition?
