It's been so long since I started this bloody project I have no idea if there's a bolt that goes on the end of the cam or not!

The range rover overhaul manual for the 4.6 makes reference to a retaining bolt....but that might be for the shorter style cam.

Anyone point me in the right direction?

There is a cam retaining plate.

I have a spare brand new one if you lost the original.

Some engines had no retaining plate and had what was destribed as a button that screwed into the thread at the end of the cam and this stopped the cam floating about by hitting the camchain cover. Crude yes.

Retaining plate is fitted already - had the nose machined to fit.

I remembered the dizzy drive gear about 4 am this morning! Am running mega squirt though so dont need one

Am I ok to leave as is? Cam wont move but what's stopping the large timing wheel from coming off?

The manual shows a bolt and a big washer. Thats what I did on mine.

Sure there is a bit gap (inch or so) but I guess it just finds its own place and pretty much stays put.

There is a spacer with a mushroom head (head to dizzy drive).. the dizzy drive gear... a washer and a bolt (make sure the washer and the bolt clamps it all up.. my new cam was level so the lot was a tad loose.
I had to take some out of the washer so it would all clamp...
The key to sprockett / spacer must have a clearance on top so the oil can pass through and lube the chain...

Does this help?.. I can take some pics tonight if you want?? smile

From memory from the end of cam it goes,

Bolt, washer, dizzy drive cog, strange shouldered spacer.

If you leave off the dizzy drive you need to replace it, Power to a spacer iirc.

Here's the shouldered spacer,

Now you need your dizzy cog or another pacer.
