Can anyone tell me about the Mk2.5 1.6 cars?

How does the engine in these differ from a Mk1 1.6? Is it the same block and spacing (exhaust manifold?).

Do they use AFM (flap) or hot wire MAF?

Do they still have the 'small' open diff, brakes etc?

Chances of me picking up a (presumably slightly unloved) Mk2.5 1.6 in rust free nick for cheap?

It would HAVE to be a solid shell for my idea to work, which possibly negates the chance of it working (hens teeth and all that) but the actual 'spec' of the vehicle is not important.

Mk2 have the same brakes & dif regardless of the engine. It's cheaper to use the same parts on all the cars rather than different parts depending on engine size.
Pretty sure that the 1.6 is basically the same as the Mk1 1.6 i.e. the same supercharger kits, echaust manifolds etc. will fit.
Also pretty sure all Mk2 onwards have MAF. It's a much better way to control fuelling than AFM.

What's the plan? Sounds interesting ears

Solid valve lifters (shims are expensive though).

Hot wire MAF

Separate cam phase and crank position sensors (CAS deleted)

Same small clutch as the Mk1 1.6

Larger brakes (1.8, not Sport big brakes though)

Larger, stronger open diff (as per the 1.8)

Rust free Mk2.5? It's a lottery.
