I don't know if I've lost the plot or something, but today, I saw a black VW Lupo, lowered (but not decked) and with some what i assume to be 14 or 15" steel wheels in the same style as those you got on the early Mk1 Golf GTI's / Sciroccos, and I LOVED it!

I've a real hankering for getting a TDI Lupo or Arosa, sorting the handling, brakes, cheeky remap and a nice set of rims. It'll not be fast, but it'll have plenty of punch, should be fairly reliable(?) and cheap to run (60 MPG, £20 road tax), and I think it'll ooze character and be great fun in the process.

I was pretty much decided on a Mk3 MR2 but for some reason, this appeals more! (yes, I'll hang up my PH jacket).

was it complete with 155 tyres stretched to fit a 7" rim?

we had an arosa sdi (1.7 4 pot no turbo) and now an a2 tdi (same 3 pot in arosa/lupo)...and at one point i was thinking along similar lines to yourself.

but unless you really need the extra practicality and/or mpg i'm not sure they'd be nearly as much fun as the mr2..indeed i've just put a deposit down on one.

the arupo tdi's are also quite rare..a decent one may well cost more than the mr2, before the mods.

well go try one, and an mr2, i like them, but not sure that one would ever be persuaded to handle (and ride) very well..punchy and eco engines tho..if rather uncultured at times.
