Want to repaint/lacquer the wheels on my Focus ST ('07) as they're past their best...anyone got the right colour match for the silver paint? don't mind rattle can or tins for a paint gun...

Again, official ford colour for cars of this era was brilliant silver, more coarse effect.

Thanks thumbup

I have large paint chips in my centre caps, how would you recommend filling them in and spraying? it'll all be DIY.

Just sand them out with a D/A, no need for filler.

I'll have to show you what it looks like, but I think it'll need fillers, as were talking deep chips.

Doubt it,I remove kerb damage by reshaping the alloy, very rare I have to use filler.

I use Wheelpaints instead, that lot comes pre-thinned and I like to change the viscosity myself, plus your getting more for your money.

But sadly I don't know the wheel paints code for ford focus alloys so would be unable to help the OP with advise on this, I do know the alloypaints stuff can be thinned up to 4.1 with standard thinners, and is cheaper per ltr.

But what do I know.

There isnt an official code.

Wheel paints is 1ltr unthinned , polyester base coat , same price as 1 ltr of thinned celly ready to use from alloy paints. Now which is better?

I'd say the one that's only £19.50 a ltr and can be applied straight onto primer, using only one coat, the other is £26.89 and needs a VF Basecoat putting on first to aid coverage.

£19.50 is a long way from being the same as £26.89

I'm guessing the OP is not a wheel refurbisher/painter and so is unsure on how to thin/mix paints, doesn't have thinners, and just wants the quick easy option of buying an easy to use product that matches his wheels at present.

The OP did say he not worried if product is loose or in aerosol form, so all this stressing about thinned or not thinned is irrelevant .

Perhaps a good time to leave the OP to decide which way he wants to go from here.

Cheers guys, sorry- not checked thread for a while as been busy on the house!!

Thanks for the info. Ready mixed, needs to be thinned, aerosol can - all fine by me, but spray gun gives much better finish, certainly for laquer.

Will look at the T91 - is that an exact match do you know ??(I'm not trying to blend, but want an original colour/matalic texture)

As far as the wheelpaints goes - i presume you use the solvent based...if you've used the water based, how did you get on?? (So much easier to clean up after with water based!!)

Cheers guys alloypaints got my business...very nice helpful guy on the phone and saved me a few quid on what I thought i needed.

Also for reference, can mix the paint to match your requirements if you need it a little thicker etc...

Will see how they turn out !!

Wheelpaints prices may appear to be cheap, but its not i.e.
Sub-Total: £10.50
Shipping (Shipping to United Kingdom(0.45Kgs)): £6.95
V.A.T. @ 20.00%: £3.49
Total: £20.94

So for a spray can £20.94 delivered, huge jump from £10.50

Why the hell are they charging VAT on the delivery, surely this cant be right.

Alloypaints.com is £15 ish for a aerosol can of ford sparkle, delivery and the dreaded vat, every penny counts.

Or they do a set which is a scotch pad, aerosol primer, goldflex pad to rub primer down, paint in colour of choice, then lacquer to seal it all all, all for £17 plus delivery/vat.
