getting from Tunbridge to Cannock on drivers roads

I'm picking my new car up from Tunbridge and want to drive home on some good roads that are free of traffic. I don't want to spend too long on either the M25 or M40.
Anybody know any roads that I should take? I really don't know that part of the World at all.

I assume you mean Tonbridge (not Tunbridge). Unless you meant Tunbridge Wells (confusing or what?)
Some ideas to pick over - check them out on Google Maps.

B245 -> Hildenborough
B2027 -> Four Elms
B269 -> Crockham Hill -> Limpsfield Chart
A25 -> A22 Godstone bypass -> M25 J6

This will avoid all the 50mph/SPECS through the roadworks between J5 and J6.
There is no decent orbital alternative from there except the M25.

Then either
-> M40 J2
A355 -> Amersham bypass
A413 -> Aylesbury

or
-> M25 J20
A41 -> Aylesbury

Then
A41 -> Bicester
A4095 Bicester ring road
B4100 -> Adderbury
A4260 -> Banbury
B4100 -> M40 J13
M40 -> J15
A46/A4177/A452/A5 -> Cannock

or leave B4100 prior to M40 at junction with
B4455 (Fosse Way)-> Princethorpe -> Bretford -> Brinklow -> High Cross
A5 -> Atherstone -> Cannock

No worries. They are pronounced the same. In previous centuries so was the spelling as can be seen from old maps and confirmed by an original Bradshaw's Handbook which I inherited from my father.

You're welcome. I organise runs for the club I belong to, so I often 'drive' new (to me) roads using Google Maps Streetview to see if they have sufficient potential for inclusion.
