Hi,
In final planning stages of a trip in Europe during early August.

Proposed route is as follows:

1) Calais to Amiens
2) Amiens - Rheims - Epernay (Old pits at Rheims)
3) Epernay - Macon
4) Macon - Gorges du Tarn (Millau Viaduct)
5) Gorges du Tarn - Arles
6) Arles - Sainte Maxim
7) Sainte Maxim - Monte Carlo - Col de Turini - Castellane
8) Castellane - Annecy
9) Annecy - Little Saint Bernard - Mont Blanc Tunnel - Chamonix
10) Chamonix - Grimsel Pass - Susten Pass - Wassen
11) Wassen - Menaggio (Lake Como)
12) Menaggio - Stelvio Pass - Fluella Pass - Davos
13) Davos - Klausen Pass - Lucerne
14) Lucerne - Baden Baden
15) Baden Baden - Hochspayer - Trier
16) Trier - Mons
17) Mons - Dunkirk - Calais

Trip is approximately 2500 miles avoiding motorways and tolls. Cars are Tuscan Convertible and XK8 Convertible.

Has anyone any suggestions for hotels and sights along the route. Any help would be appreciated.

Cham is always incorporated during my road trips. It's a fantastic place in summer.

Stay at the Hotel Gustavia and ask for a balcony ... cheap and awesome.

Otherwise, looks good... book as you go on lastminute.com ... more flexibility!

I'd do the Grand St Bernard pass rather than the MtBlanc tunnel

the road down to and out of millau is better than the bridge its self , and a really nice town . Make sure you at least stop at the viewing point rather than just driving straight over , we did and the comment was , was that it ! The weather wasnt the best though and we had to get to our destination .

11) Wassen - Menaggio (Lake Como)

Quite a short day.

I'd look at doing the furka pass and the nufenenpass OR st gotthard pass (there are 2 options, the new one or the old one known on google maps as 'tremola' (its cobbled, you've been warned) OR head east from Andermatt towards Disentis then head south and rejoin the E35 at Biasca.

If you want to make it even longer, the head up to the san bernardino pass and then come back south on the splugen pass (SS36).

Otherwise you'll be through the Gotthard road tunnel, which is an experience (long, hot), but it is limited to 40mph if I remember correctly. The other ways mentioned above are far prettier wink

I went last year, a bit different to what you are doing but you might like to take a look, there are pictures of most of the roads mentioned above:

Lucerne - Baden Baden
Was you planning on going through the Black Forrest? These were the best roads of my 2,500 mile road trip.
The route that I took through the Black Forrest was Lucerne to Wehr to Todmoos to Todtnau to Oppenau to Ruhestein and finally to Baden Baden.
Also, any plans on going to the Ring?

As for hotels, looks as though you are only stopping in a few of the same places as I did

Reims - Ibis Reims Tinqueux
Davos - Hotel Edelweiss
Near Baden Baden - Gasthaus Auerhahn

Just in case you haven't read the sticky at the top of the page, there are links to all of the write ups that people have done of their Euro road trips.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. Will probably modify the route a little and take up some of the hotel suggestions.
